What are your thoughts on the statement, “Science has significantly contributed to the building of our great civilization”?

In my opinion, science has undeniably contributed significantly to building our great civilization. There is no doubt that our world is being transformed by the efforts of science. In the past, people used candles and oil lamps to produce light. Today, light bulbs and tube lights illuminated by electricity brighten our world as if it were daytime even at night.

Previously, when people got sick and medical know-how was limited, doctors and hospitals didn't have the meds and tech we take for granted. In the past, people often succumbed to even minor ailments. Thanks to science, we now have antibiotics, vaccinations, advanced instruments and techniques. Complex procedures like heart transplants and major surgery are now commonplace. Diseases like cancer that were once incurable can now be effectively treated as well.

Science has made our lives so much easier that it is difficult to even comprehend. Imagine how arduous life used to be for our ancestors. Traveling from one location to another entailed great hardship. Now we have cars, planes, trains and more. Technology has progressed so rapidly that we can even travel into space!

Consider innovations like smartphones, the internet and social media – these are all gifts from science and technology. Without them, we would all be isolated from one another. The world has become a global village. Science has undoubtedly helped shape our civilization!

Can you imagine and describe how our lives might have been if science did not exist?

Let's ponder over how life would have been if science did not exist...oh how difficult that would have been! Upon waking, our homes would be darkened without electricity. We would have to light oil lamps. Electricity would be nonexistent. Every task, from doing laundry to cooking, would have to be done manually – scrubbing clothes, washing them with our bare hands as portrayed in old films. How tedious!

The kitchen would be hugely inconvenient as well. Cooking food over a wood-burning stove would be time-consuming and laborious. Gas stoves and microwaves available today have simplified cooking considerably. Without science, everything would require strenuous effort.

Falling sick would have been dreadful. No X-rays or blood tests would be available. Doctors could only make educated guesses. For surgery, the doctor would have to use his fingers as instruments...how horrifying! Consider medical achievements that save lives – we now cure diseases like cancer thanks to science. Otherwise, it would be a death sentence!

And today with the prevalence of the internet and smartphones - if these technologies disappeared...life would turn very difficult very quickly! We couldn't video chat with friends, online shopping would cease to exist. Discussing movies or accessing other entertainment like Youtube and games would end. Without science, life would instantly become boring and mundane!

Clearly, without science humanity would still be stuck in the Stone Age - devoid of culture, sophistication or any sort of convenience. Science is what has made our modern, progressive and comfortable way of life possible.

If given the opportunity to pose a question to a renowned scientist, whom would you choose and what would your question be?

"Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds."

Recently I watched the movie “Oppenheimer” starring Cillian Murphy in the role of Robert Oppenheimer. As a science enthusiast and chemistry student, I found the movie highly interesting and informative.

If I had a chance to ask a question to a scientist, I would choose Robert Oppenheimer and ask him "If you were given an opportunity to travel back in time, would you again develop the nuclear bomb?"

I’d ask because he oversaw the Manhattan Project that created the nukes dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instantly vaporizing countless people. Could you envision someone being vaporized? - horrifying!

Could you list three remarkable scientific discoveries that have simplified our lives?

There are countless innovations that have dramatically simplified daily life. But in my opinion, three remarkable discoveries in science that have done this are:

  • Electricity - Arguably the most vital innovation ever! Homes previously used candles and oil lamps. Now electricity powers everything from light bulbs to turbines to supercomputers! Nearly every aspect of daily life depends on this energy source for insane ease and convenience.

  • Internet - Could anyone before have envisioned something instantly connecting the whole planet? Well, the internet is one of science’s most mind-blowing creations. Life without it is now unthinkable. Total game changer for modern life!

  • Smartphones - By making the internet and computing mobile, smartphones revolutionized things. This portable device lets you hold the whole world in your pocket!

I trust that you found the information in my article to be valuable. 😊

Regards,
Science has given us a better civilization and made easier means of living. The medical science you mention has so richly benefited this science today. Scientific discoveries are closely related to our lives. I wish you success.

Science has changed the world order and our lives for the better. With science things have become easier. We can travel to distant places in a short time. And communicate with people all over the world virtually. And there are many other conveniences that we get with science. Science has really influenced us, our lives have become easier.

Hello dear, How was the day ? I wish to you to be in peace and living their best moments of life. You have chosen a great scientist to ask your question. Robert Oppenheimer was a great scientist. Your question reflects human sensibilities. Because when you think about the atom bomb, you think of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. People's lives were destroyed by atoms bomb , hence such inventions are very dangerous.I enjoyed reading your post. Wish you good may you always achieve whatever you aim for yourself in life and make the best journey .Greetings from me Have a beautiful day .

Thanks for inviting me, this one is on my list! If I get a chance I will interview a person who claims to be a time traveler from the next century. He has a photograph with him but he says he got blurred due to time travel.

It would be interesting...

Dear, if you could meet the scientist Oppenheimer, you would have a question. I agree with you that your question about the discovery of atomic bomb is very important. The world has been at a standstill since the invention of the atomic bomb. Science has modernized us a lot but some discoveries are leading us to destruction. But this is happening because we are misusing science. The use of smart phones has benefited people a lot but nowadays smart phones are being misused. You wrote about three wonderful discoveries. Smart phones, internet and electricity are really amazing inventions. But I think every invention used in daily life is amazing. Your writing about science is very beautiful. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the feedback. 🙂

A world without science would have automatically transport us back to the stone age which is the primitive period. The comfort and pleasure we are enjoying now will vanish into thin air if science cease to exist. The aspect of health and electricity have full science backings. Good luck on your post.
