Muslim Nikah | Attending my cousin's Engagement ceremony (02 August, 2024)

Fridays, being holidays in our country, are also popular days for hosting various events. Most weddings, engagements, or other social gatherings take place on Fridays because government holidays easy for people from all walks of life to attend in these events.

Last Friday, my cousin's engagement was held. Considering our country's current situation, the muslim Nikah ceremony was organized in a nearby mosque. After spending the morning at home, I attended the ceremony in the afternoon.

According to Muslim Nikah customs, the relatives of the bride and groom attend the mosque to perform certain rituals. No female members of the two families including the bride participate in this phase as per our religious principles.

After the Asr prayer, the Nikah ceremony began. I was watching the entire ceremony from a distance as there were more relatives present in the mosque room. The person who recites the Nikah is called Qazi.

After the Nikah was completed, each person present was given a food box containing three different food items.

Nikah ceremony is called the most important part of wedding. It is through this ceremony that the bride and groom become husband and wife. However, since it was my neighbor cousin's wedding, I participated in the remaining parts of the engagement.

At the end of the Nikah phase, many relatives left the mosque. Then, only the close relatives and some friends of the groom including me went to the bride's house to attend the next ceremony. There, we all sat together.

We were all eagerly waiting for the bride. If anyone was waiting more eagerly than us, it was the groom. However we were very well treated and food was arranged for everyone.

Looking at the above plate, you can tell that many types of food were served and it is not possible to eat all these items together, so I tasted some food items especially fruits, chicken fry, samosa from there. Most of the food was homemade, which I liked very much.

Finally our wait was over and the bride entered our room. We all welcomed and congratulated her. In our country, brother's wife is called Bhabi. Then the bride and groom exchanged rings completing the engagement. When we were taking pictures of the newlywed couple. My cousin who's the groom was very shy.

I really enjoyed being able to participate in the entire event from start to finish. We were insisted to have the evening dinner at the bride's house, but we had already visited their house as guests which increased their workload, so we decided not to put any more pressure on them and didn't have dinner there. I had dinner at home. These were the activities of my cousin's engagement ceremony.
