Today, I will write my Electrical Learning Part 15 and Week 15. I will discuss the pros and cons of connecting a solar panel board in series. Hopefully, everyone will benefit from reading my writing.
Today, I will discuss the technique of connecting four solar panels in series. The techniques for connecting four and connecting ten panels are the same. I have four solar panels of 20 watts, 12 volts and 5 amps each.
In a solar panel, two terminals are positive and negative, respectively. Connect the positive terminal of the first solar panel and the negative terminal of the second solar panel together. Then, connect the positive terminal of the second solar and the negative terminal of the third solar. Connect the positive terminal of the third solar and the negative terminal of the fourth solar. In this way, all the positive and negative terminals of the solar panels must be connected in series.
Total Voltage = V1+V2+V3+V4 =12+12+12+12=48 Volt
Total Current = 5 Amp.
In the series connection of solar panels, the voltage added and the current remains the same. Solar is connected in series based on the power supply voltage. By connecting my four solar panels, each panel voltage is 12 volts, so when connected in series, the voltage adds up to 48 volts.
Battery and charge controller should be used based on voltage generation. Batteries should be placed in series and parallel based on power capacity. The inverter should be installed based on the voltage output.
Solar series connection is used to obtain high voltage. For example, solar series connection is used to supply power to industries or to the grid.
Advantages of connecting solar panels in series:
- To produce high voltage, solar panels must be connected in series.
- Since the current is the same, the problem in the power system is reduced.
- More electricity can be produced.
Disadvantages of connecting solar panels in series:
- If any one solar panel fails, the entire system stops producing electricity.
- The cost is a little higher due to high voltage generation.
- Since the solar panels are connected in series, the current remains the same.
