Contest | World Refugee Day
Hello, friends welcome to my post in which I have discussed "World Refugee Day" as part of my participation in this 👉contest organized by @ripon0630
✅ What does "refugee" mean in your own words? Is this day celebrated in your country?
To me, "refugee" means someone who runs out of his or her comfort zone to another country or region for safety due to war, conflict, or natural disaster. There are a lot of people who have been forced to leave their home country to another country due to violence, persecution, war, or natural disasters. This category of people who leave their home country due to the crisis in their home country move to another country to seek safety because their lives are at risk where they come from.
I am a Nigerian, and in my country, Nigeria, 20 June is a world refugee day, which almost every Nigerian acknowledges, especially those who are working with humanitarian organizations like community groups, NGOs, and UNHCR. Although 20 June is not a national holiday, it is just a special day that is set outside to create awareness, campaign, and support the programs to show solidarity for those who have run out of their home country or state.
✅ Name a country that is known for hosting a large number of refugees. What is the current situation of them?
Turkey is a country that is known for hosting a large number of refugees, and it has been hosting people fleeing from Syria due to the conflict in Syria.
As we read, many refugees are still in urban areas or temporary shelters in Turkey. These people are faced with access to jobs, education, and other life challenges. Turkey has really made so much effort to support refugees from Syria, and the country is still doing its best.
✅ How do you think children who are refugees might be affected by leaving their homes?
Children are affected by the following by leaving their homes:
Trauma from losing loved ones or from the violence they witness
Loneliness and fear most especially when they are separated from loved ones
Health issues because of poor living conditions
Interrupted education which affects their future of becoming a doctor, nurse, etc
✅ If you could send a message of hope to a refugee. What would it say?
If I could send a message of hope to a refugee I would say this;
You are not forgotten. All that you are passing through, the world sees your strength and your courage. Even though you have lost so much, you should never lose hope and believe in God. There are brighter days ahead for you, and you deserve safety, love,, and a future that is full of possibility. Please stay safe, healthy, and strong.
🎉 Congratulations!
