We all know that it is the month of Ramadan, the holy month of Islam for Muslims. As Muslims, we all know what Ramadan is and what is fasting. There are friends of different religions on steemit they may not know about our fasting properly so for them I want to give an idea about fasting first.

What is Fasting

Fasting in Islam is abstaining from eating and drinking and sexual intercourse from dawn till sunset.

Have you ever fasted? What rule did you follow in fasting?

I fasted for the first time when I was 7/8 years old. I still remember the afternoons when I was feeling down; Nana (grandfather) would read me a fairy tale book so that I could complete my fast. Now Allah allows me to fast in Ramadan and I fast.

Some of the rules for fasting are mentioned in the Qur'an and Hadith. Accordingly, we should fast. The rules I follow are:

  1. To fast. That is to say that I will fast tomorrow In Sha Allah.

  2. Eating Sahari around Subeh Sadiq.

  3. Taking Iftar i.e. breaking fast immediately after Maghrib Azan.

  4. Starting iftar with dates.

  5. Recite this doa after Iftar.

"Thirst is removed, the veins are refreshed, and if Allah wills, the reward of fasting is recorded" (Abu Dawud Sharif: 2357)

  1. Give Iftar to the fasting person.
Does fasting work as medicine for our bodies?

Usually, after 8 hours of eating food, the effect of fasting starts on our body. After eating our food, it takes 8 hours for the stomach to digest that food. When this food is digested, our body tries to get energy from the glucose stored in the liver and muscles. As a result, fat melts and our weight decreases. This process is called autophagy.

In 2016, Japanese scientist Oshinari Osumi received the Nobel Prize for his amazing information about autophagy.

Fasting lowers cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of diabetes. So there is no doubt that fasting works as a medicine for our body.

But since we abstain from food and drink throughout the day, we need to consume a lot of water and water-based foods at night. Otherwise, the body will become dehydrated.

Have you noticed any physical and mental changes in yourself due to fasting?

Fasting is a mercy from Allah for us. So its importance and benefits are immense. Fasting is a religious act of worship so many physical and mental changes occur in us as a result of fasting.

Physical changes:
  1. As a result of fasting, we have to go without food for a long time. So if we eat healthy food in Sahari and Iftar our weight will decrease and help us stay fit.

  2. Due to not eating for a long time during fasting, the digestive acid is released slowly; as a result, various digestive problems are eliminated.

  3. Fasting is the ideal time for those who have bad habits. Those who want to get rid of addictions like drugs, smoking, jorda must use this fasting period. Because fasting teaches us moderation.

Mental changes:

Along with the physical benefits, fasting has many mental benefits as well.

  1. Since fasting is a religious act of worship, fasting gives peace of mind.

  2. Due to mental calmness, the release of stress hormones is reduced, so our brain becomes more active.

  1. By fasting for a long month, we learn self-control which brings order to our lives.

  2. By fasting, our body learns to take different types of stress, thereby reducing our emotional instability.

Also, the social and economic benefits of fasting are immense.

What things should be taken care of while fasting?

There are several things we should keep in mind while fasting.
Don't talk too much if you are fasting. And avoid unnecessary words and actions.

Do not quarrel with anyone. If someone comes to fight with you, say (I am fasting) send him away.

Recite more Quran and Zikir-Azkar, because Allah gives 70 times the reward for all good deeds during this fasting.

Don't lie, because telling lie is the root of all evil.

Don't indulge in anyone's criticism. It is the most heinous deed in Islam.

Avoid having sex with your wife.

Avoid viewing obscene and indecent images. It promotes many crimes.

More charity should be done. Our prophet gives charity more and more in this holy month.

Conclusion

So it is essential for everyone to follow the guidelines of fasting. Finally, it can be said that fasting is one of the right guidance to guide the servant of Allah on the right and straight path. It's a unique way of shaping human character is through overall moderation.
