Tastes

African Cherry has different tastes but it is never bitter. Some tastes very sweet while others are slappy, that is kind of sour. It is said to be slappy because if you taste it, it seems to slap your jaw through its taste.

Beliefs about it.

It is believed that when rain falls on it, it tastes sweeter. But the sourness or slappy taste is because rain is yet to fall on it. But then, rain hasn't fallen in some parts of Nigeria since the year began and some still taste sweet. Another belief that Nigerians have about this fruit is that if you want it to be very sweet, you have to hit it on the wall or something solid or massage it and then it would Taste sweeter. Some complain of the sour taste and others recommend not buying the pale ones but the one that tend to be deep orange.
