Is there any history behind the formation of your national flag? If so, what happened?

My countrys national flag was borne on the 1st of October 1960 when it assumed her independence as a federation. Before this date, the country has been under the leadership of the british colonial masters.

After the successful design and presentation of the national flag by a group of competitors, one of our own was selected as the best of all presented designs. Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi is the designer behind the country's national flag that was hoisted on the 1st day of October 1960.

The colour of the natioanal flag is Green, White & Green. His inspiration was informed on the country's wealth in agriculture and the peace and unity it attained in the realization of its independence.

What do the different colours or symbols on your national flag represent?

First of all, the national flag comes with two (2) colours. The colours are green and white.

The green colours were inspired by the large agricultural lands of the country. Nigeria is surrounded by large hectares of agricultural land, and hence, the green colour indicates this arable lands.

The white color, on the other hand, indicated the peace and unity it enjoyed toward the attainment of this well valued independence. Nigeria is made up of different tribes and we all know what it entails to bring all of these people together in one mind. Hence, peace and unity were well captured with the sympoblic white colour.

How does your national flag represent your country on the world stage?

National flags are the identities of every country. We can see this from the different comoty of nations where.theyvare gathered with their symbolic national colors displayed infront of them. We can see that in United Nations meetings.

International sporty events are another world gathering the national flag is represented. It is compulsory that this is raised, and the national anthem also sang. In fact, it is the country's national symbol on all international events.

The importance is well known, and even the bad guys (terrorists) also know.this fact. When they capture a territory, the first they do is to hoist their flag to show strength and ownership of occupation.
