SEC-S17W6: "Tourism in my country"
Greetings my fellow steemains I am engaging in this week's contest and will give it my best shot.
Share two popular tourist spots in your country and the reason why they are so popular?
The two tourism attraction spots in my country which is Nigeria is the obudu cattle ranch and the Calabar international museum which is owned, governed and funded by the federal government of Nigeria.
Firstly, I will begin with the Calabar museum, A museum is a place or building in which historical, cultural and things are exhibited for future reference we needs arise.
- The Calabar museum stores the historical and cultural heritage of the cross rivevarians like showing the modern generation the time in which their people where being enslaved by the white men. The Calabar museum tells it's people about the time in which a slave is been marked by it's master, and if that slave eventually disobey it's master,it will be burn to death by being hanged to to a tree upside-down. It also stores the history of the past and present rulers which ruled the Calabar people until civilization come to Nigeria.
Now speaking of the obudu mountain resort (which was formerly known as the obudu cattle ranch). This place is one of the most pleasant, beautiful and marvelous tourism spots in in Nigeria. Which is located on top of the obudu plateau, that is closed to the Cameroon border, it is at the Northeastern part of cross river state. The Obudu it self is a local government area in Cross River State, and there are seven village's which makes up the Obudu plateau.
One of the most important reason that makes the Obudu mountain resort to be so popular is because it is the only place in Nigeria that I know that snow falls, I am presently in Cross River State because my dad is a solider posted to a barrack in Cross River State during the year 2009.
- When it comes to how the Obudu mountain resort discovered and also about who discovered it, It goes like this, the sankwala mountain ranges were first explored during the year 1949 by a Scottish rancher who's name was McCaughley,he camped out on the Mountains for about one month, after that he friend who was also a rancher, in 1951, together with another rancher Crawfeild to develop the ranch on the plateau known as the Obudu Cattle Ranch.
Do foreign tourists visit these spots? What special facilities are there for them?
Foreign tourist do visit it in other to get some valuable information about the Calabar museum and obudu cattle ranch. There usually it cuz of special artifacts like the calved stubborn/wisee slave which protray a losing the chains which was used by their Masters to close their mouths in other to avoid them from eating the crops which there where ask to look after, instead of doing that he will rather loose his lips from the chians and start eating the crops, e.g plantain, yams and banana and some other fruits.
What kind of improvement do you think is needed to increase the visibility of foreign tourists there?
The suggestion of improvement that I have is of regards to the Obudu mountain resort.
This is an event that is about to take place in the Obudu mountain resort which is called the Obudu mountain race, in this Obudu mountain race contestants are expected to run from a certain point and also stop at a certain point the first five individuals will be given their various gif. Before the event begins I suggest that they make announcement all over the radio and the news including the BBC and other world wide broadcasting cooperation. To create awareness all over the world in other to attract tourist from outside the country to participate in the Obudu mountain race.
Do you know any spot that is not yet known to everyone but has the potential to become a popular tourist destination in the future?
I know of a place that will eventually become a tourist destination in the future, the place is called Nkarasi located in Cross River State this place has valuable things like monoliths which are been keept for the future generation, they was ones a time some of the white men who were tourist bought one of this monoliths for one of an individual who was from Nkarasi, after some time the monolith started to disturb this white men and began to cry and the teirs was blood it said that it wants to go back to it's people.
I will love to invite @anthony002,@bonaventure24,@josepha,@xubair to participate in this week's contest.
Greetings @chiagoziee
