SEC-S17W1: "Season of My Country"

in Steem For Bangladesh3 months ago

Hello welcome!

Time comes and seasons goes. Some seasons tend to be more preferable than the other but each of them have the special function they play in our environment.

In my country there are two special types of seasons namely the rainy season and the dry season. The dry season is popularly called the harmattan season. Just like their name implies, the rainy season is characterized by so much rain and it peak is usually from April to November.

The dry season start from November to march. The rainy season tend to last longer than the dry season and at the onset, it’s usually the planting time when people begins to clear their farm land getting ready for the planting season.

I prefer the dry season to the rainy season. If am to skip one of the season forever, I would say it’s the rainy season because the streets are usually flooded and due to the fact that there are no good roads and good drainage systems in my country, it’s usually a very difficult season for the masses.

The roads are typically flooded with any heavy down pour and sometimes these flood carry people and they die. Almost every rainy season, there are cases of death resulting from people being carried away with the flood. The bad roads make it difficult for people to move from one point to the other.

The flooding and bad roads causes a drastic drop in economic activities and hence a shortage in the amount of money made from sales of goods. If it was in a situation where there are good roads and drainage system and the roads doesn’t have to be flooded, this may not have been an issue.

The flood even gets to enter people’s house and most people loose their accommodations to flood and the rate of sickness and flu increases with the rainy season. Sometime we would have to waddle through the dirty flood waters just to find our way home. This is depressing.

The rainy season is a season for planting, during the August break, there is a popular celebration known as the new yam festival when the easterners in my country celebrate the harvesting of the new yam. It’s a very popular festival that attracts people from all walks of life.

Most of the people who grace the new yam festival come from the city to the villages where this festival happens. It’s like saying the new yam is out and then it’s time to eat it.

It’s mostly a practice from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria. People come out dressed in all types of beautiful attires and there are dancing, wrestling and even masquerades parade. It’s a very exciting festival and there’s usually plenty of the new yam to eat.

Like I said the yam is mostly the most common food during the new yam festival and during the rainy season, it’s a time for all kinds of fruit and seasonal foods like maize and pear. So you would see people harvesting and selling corns both cooked and roasted corns on the street.

Other fruits like mango find their fruiting during the rainy season. I enjoy having the cooked corn especially the yellow ones during this period and people tend to make alot of money selling them.

During the dry season we have fruits like cherry in season and it’s very sweet and people would readily go for it.

Season are beautiful times of our lives. Each of them have their unique functions but create a balance in the environment. If am asked, I prefer the dry season that the rainy season because it tend to bring less challenges with it.

Thank you for dropping by my blog. Your comments are welcomed. I invite @ruthjoe, @kodi40 and @bessie123 to participate this contest.

Hello dear @alexanderpeace
Seasons indeed play a crucial role in our lives, shaping our experiences and environment. While both the rainy and dry seasons have their significance, it's understandable why you prefer the dry season due to its fewer challenges. Your description of the new yam festival and the vibrant activities during the rainy season paints a colorful picture of your country's culture and traditions.

Hello @alexanderpeace

  • Hi, you mentioned that your country also has two seasons, dry season and rainy season, but you expressed your opinion that you like dry season and you skip rainy season every year because it rains more. Due to this, a lot of water accumulates on the road, which proves to be bad for the road, but also not good for us, in which various diseases are born, which have bad effects on us. There are many germs that affect human health and also you told about your favorite fruit. Mango is a favorite of most people. I also like to eat it.

Thanks for the comment and success

Seasons play a vital role in our environment, each having its own unique characteristics and functions. In your country, Nigeria, you experience two main seasons: the rainy season and the dry season, with the dry season being known as the harmattan season. The rainy season, which typically lasts from April to November,

I can see the reasons why you want to skip the rainy season, because of the flood in your country which disturb the masses due to bad drainage system. You're right dear, because this flood can intrude our houses and get away with our household items. Also during the rainy season, masses are mostly at the doctor's watch because of the sickness and diseases that come along with Rainy season.

@alexanderpeace The challenges of the rainy season are palpable and your preference for the dry season is understandable. The description of the new yam festival adds a cultural depth to your narrative. Best of luck in the contest
