OUR COUNTRY'S GREATEST DAYS ARE AHEAD ONLY IF WE CAN ESCAPE THE SHADOWS OF OUR PAST

Nigeria is at crossroads, there is no doubt about it. Many persons have asked - how did we get to this point? Why are things continually working against us? Well, many persons believe that our ordeal was caused by the British when they amalgamated us. While this may be a half-truth, there is another side of it that those who think they are well-grounded in history have refused to give an explanation to. How come our politicians across ethnic and religious divide continue to pursue their selfish ends to the detriment of the masses who put their faith and hope in them? Is it the British that persuaded INEC not to do transparent recruitment for Adhoc staff to conduct free, fair, and credible elections? Is it the British that armed thugs to harass Nigerians who wished to exercise their civic duties? Is it the British that persuaded state assemblies to refuse to endorse the autonomy of local governments? Is it the British that suggested we always elect people who lack credibility, competence, vision, and the needed intellectual capacity to understand what our problems are and profer solutions?

We must pause for a moment to reflect on who we really want to become. We must be the masters of our fate as a nation not a playground for political conspirators. As we look towards the future, our thoughts and actions are what can move our country forward not the firepower of our guns, or the rhetorics in praise of our ethnic and religious sentimentality.
