Go on a journey of self discovery
It has been argued by many that self discovery is a good step to self esteem. When one discovers who he/she is, his/her capacity, it opens rooms and doors for greater possibilities.
A man who doesn't know his self worth or he's yet to discover himself is open to life challenges. Such a man is likely going to fail and in most cases, the failure is very great.
Growing up, we started this journey to discover who we are or what gifts were deposited in us by virtue of birth.
These discoveries are mostly rooted in us by what interest us or what subject we love most as young children.
For those of us under the WAEC (West African Examination Council), we were graded and examined by our results in the Junior Examination.
After the JSS3 class, we are told to pick from Arts, Commercial and Science classes. In some schools, these classes are chosen for students based on their results by the school authority.
These classes are major definers of many people's profession today. This is also responsible for why many couldn't go further in life because they chose wrong classes.
In those days, being a science student was seen to be the dream of many. Science students were thought to be the chosen ones. Probably because schools head prefect were chosen from there.
This single decision go on to decide how some of them performed in schools. Some did excellently because they were able to discover that they were very good in some science subjects.
For others, they struggle to be average and below average students.
This shows greatly in their performances which in turn affect their future decisions on what to be in life.
Due to wrong subject combinations, many couldn't proceed because they realised the subjects they have cannot take them into university so they needed to start afresh so as to get the required subjects needed for their new discoveries.
While this decision was taken lightly by these young children back then, little do they know about the gravity of that decision.
Decisions are very powerful and when we are taking any, there is a need to seriously weigh the outcome and do checks and balances to see if the end product would yield good result.
Self discovery is a major factor that decides what a man turns out to be in life.
Many people today have treasured gifts and talents buried in them, unknown to them due to wrong decisions and their inability to engage in a self discovery mission.
We all have interest in one thing or the other, and all we need to do is to pay attention to those things and ignite the passion in us.
Every man is deposited with gifts and talents. There is no man on earth short of talents. The earlier we discover this, the better we are able to nurture and improve on them.
As a rule, go on a journey of self discovery, once you discover those things that interest you, develop them, work on them and before you know it, they will become an extension of you.
Life is about discovering who you are, what you are here for and how to use who you are to benefit mankind and also yourself.
History remembers great men who are exceptional in their profession. Be one by discovering your true self.
