in STEEM NIGERIA4 years ago

For the purpose of interacting with futures exchange on Poloniex, the company has provided futures trading that accommodates both REST APIs and Websocket Feeds.

These two features give users access to both public market data and private read access to their accounts. The private write access to an individual’s account is available through private REST API.

How To Minimize Latency
For high frequency traders, there is provision for their bots to be located as close to Poloniex servers as possible.

Poloniex futures makes use of Cloudflare for all her request, thus users can minimize network latency by positioning their client near the Cloudflare gateway in Tokyo, Japan.

To identify which Cloudflare your client is accessing, users can run the following command on the same machine as their bot:
curl -s https://www.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/trace

By default, the Cloudflare Tokyo data centre will return a colo field of NRT. If a different colo value happen to pop up, the location can be check using here.

Now to The Upcoming Changes

Request Rate Limit
Status showing 429 Too Many Request will show when the request limit is being exceeded. In cases where the request limit is exceeded in multiple times, the system is structured to resist the use of that user’s IP and account for just a minute.

Other remaing request times will be returned in the results.

Professional traders and market makers are advised to apply for more or higher request rate limit. This is because they may need higher limit, considering their bulky volume of their trade. Users who need higher rate can apply here [email protected].

Rest API
Private Endpoints: The rate limit for requests via public endpoints is calculated based on IP as follows:
---200 requests per 10 seconds for rate limit of order placement/order cancellation/operation to positions.
---1 request per 5 seconds for 9rate limit on mass cancellation.
---300 requests per 10 seconds for rate limit on other operations.

Public Endpoints: The rate limit for requests via public endpoint is calculated based on IP as follows:
---10 requests per minute for rate limit of level 2 and level 3 order book.
---180 requests per minute for other operations.

Authentication
Creating API Key:* in order to be able to sign any request, the user must first create API key using the Poloniex futures website here.

When the key is created, the user must write down these 3 pieces of information: Key, Secret and Passphrase.
The Key and Secret are generated and provided by Poloniex Futures and the Passphrase refers to the one you used to create the Poloniex Futures API. Please note that these three pieces of information cannot be recovered once lost. If you lost this information, please create a new API KEY.

Very technical stuff. I however got interested in the authentication part. Lots of people fail to understand that with crypto, you have to be most careful with pass keys. It's good to hear that a new API KEY can be created, however, it is best to have the former one kept safely in an easily accessible location. Hopefully, this should not be a big deal to a true steemian who should have learnt how to secure keys during Achievement 2. This keys also help to ensure security as it's a requirement for signing requests.

Nice post. Thanks for sharing.
