Some Mysteries And My Stand

Last Sunday, the 12th Sunday in the Ordinary Time (in the Catholic calendar) captured the event in Mark 8:27-30, Matthew 16:13-20 and Luke 9:18-21.

Therein, Jesus had asked them whom people said he were. They answered, alluding to prophets who had long gone. Reading the bible passages under reference will make Peter's answer known for those who might have forgotten.

To my mind, their allusion to prophets of the old who had long died points towards one direction- Reincarnation; and the fact that Jesus did not say anything to dissuade their minds from same buttresses my position.

To further nail in this points, the transfiguration event of Matthew 17:1-13, is instructive; especially, verses 10, 11, 12 and 13.

"10."Then the disciples asked Jesus, "Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?"

11."Elijah is indeed coming first", answered Jesus, "and he will get everything ready.

12.But I tell you that Elijah has already come and people did not recognise him but treated him just as they pleased...."

13.Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist."

There is no doubt that religious doctrines and spirituality are distinct, yet most times, the latter gives credence to the former. If issues of spirituality are jettisoned while religious doctrines are being formulated, religion will ultimately suffer the repercussion of such act of neglect or ignorance.

I concede that human knowledge and understanding of the workings of the metaphysical is limited; yet I must say that this deficit in knowledge and understand should not form the basis of outrightly dismissing that which we do not or cannot understand at the moment. Rather, I advocate a consistent striving to grasp that which currently elude us.

I have witnessed situations where (christian) religious leaders vehemently pontificated as to the non-existence of reincarnation while I have first-hand events and facts to counter their misguided positions. It is sad that the colonial masters who brought them the new religion had no grasp of reincarnation thus handed nothing down in that regard. I sympathise with both master and servant.

I must confess that I cannot boast of possessing the slightest illumination of the mystery of reincarnation. But what I know is that I have seen it happen over and over again.

One fact that is sure is this: That you don't not subscribe to a belief does not render it non-existent and vice versa.
