From behind the bush he watched the house. The police still guarded it and he couldn't say he cared. The only thing he was interested in was what they found inside. Did the police find something at all or was the house only a crime scene because the stupid old lady hit a neighbor down and left him for dead? He didn't feel any regret for her. He had watched how the police had taken her into custody. It was a relief. She had never really liked him, the only person who was kind to him was the other boy. A boy the man had brought home. He had noticed the child was different, different from him, the others but he was kind and gentle, kind, gentle and a bit weird. He dragged a doll with him and said it would protect him from evil. Evil... there had been more evil in that house than anyone could imagine. Most neighbors never questioned what was going on. They all seem to believe Mr. Gordon was a great, social guy with a heart of gold.
Gold? It was closer to granite. There was no need to beg, shed tears in his presence. The doll... he doubted it kept his friend safe. One evening he didn't return. The bed remained empty and the doll... He had found it outside in the trashcan, hid it to keep it safe, hoped it would keep him out of danger too during those scary nights and days.
