Greetings dear friends,
It's a pleasure to share with you all my participation in this week's engagement challenge in this noble community which talks about the famous street foods in my place. Indeed everywhere there are street foods that we sometimes patronize and here in my place, it's no different.

Today I will be sharing with you all how maize cake (Massa) as it is formally called in the Hausa language is made and the reason why it is one of the most famous street food in my area. I do hope you will enjoy reading through my blog till the end. Let's get started.

The ingredients

Maize cake is made up of rice and corn as its major ingredient. This means that for you to prepare this type of street food you need some maize and rice. More other ingredients used for the preparation can be seen in the list below.

  • Rice
  • Maize
  • Salt/Sugar
  • Groundnut oil
  • Potash
  • Yeast

How it is prepared or cooked. (Cooking Procedures)

Preparing maize cake is quite very easy and simple and anyone can do that in his or her home provided they have the frier. I have said so because there is a special frier designed to prepare this street food.

Before frying which is the last thing to do, you will measure some quantity of rice and maize and then have them both soaked in water for at least 6 hours. This will enable the maize and the rice to become softer and also swollen the more.

After that, you are to wash the rice and maize thoroughly then take them to the grinding engine for them to be properly grinded. Immediately that is done, you bring it back and then you add your yeast to it and cover it for a while.

This may take about 10-30 minutes and then the next thing you need to do is to decide if you want to do that of salt or that of sugar. Add a quantity of whichever type you want to do and then stir completely so that everything gets mixed properly.

When you are done with that, ensure you have your frier on the fire, then put little drops of groundnut oil in each of the holes, and then fetch a certain quantity and put in the hole one after the other even as you have seen in the image below.

After a while, you need to turn it so that the other side too will be fried properly. You will continually do this until you have seen that the maize cake is well-fried. It should look like the one in the picture below.

What is its selling price in Steem?

mine.PNG

As I have said earlier, you may decide to do that of sugar or that of salt. In any case, the prices for that salt and sugar differ a bit. For that sugar, it is sold at 3 for 100 and that of salt is sold at 5 for 100 which is equivalent to 0.7 steem as of the time of writing this contest.

This means, if you are purchasing sugar, 3 pieces of the maize cake are given to you at the rate of NGN100 which is equivalent to 0.7 steem and the same goes in the case of the one that is done with salt. Though that of the salt, 5 pieces are sold at NGN100 which is equivalent to 0.7 steem.

What makes it famous?

mine.PNG

Being in the northern part of Nigeria, they have the foods that are most famous to them and one of the foods is maize cake. It is most common because it is a food you can eat at any time of the day. Another thing is that it is very tasty and most people like it because it's affordable and it can help in holding you from hunger.

The love for the food is quite much and even some part of northerners here have also included the food in the list of the menu which must be provided by anyone who wants to marry a woman from their region. With this, the food is getting even more famous.

As a stranger in the land, when you see people trooping in to eat this street food, you will want to have a test of it too. This is how the food became so famous in my area.

If you wish to do it at home just follow the simple steps I have discussed above and have it done. I want to finally invite a few friends to also join the contest here today if they have not joined. Thanks @afrizalbinalka for the support

It's interesting to learn about the process of preparing rice and maize for frying. Soaking them in water for at least 6 hours is a good idea as it softens them and makes them swell. Thoroughly washing them and grinding them properly is also important. Adding yeast and allowing it to rest for some time is a crucial step that helps to enhance the flavor and texture of the mixture. Lastly, adding either sugar or salt based on your preference and stirring it properly ensures that the seasoning is evenly mixed. It sounds like a delicious recipe that I would love to try.

Thanks 🙏

Thanks for your wonderful comment my friend. You should try it

Saludos amigo.

Saludos. Suerte en el Challenge.
