Diary Game Contest Featuring "My Town in 10 Pics" - Loon, Bohol and The Rebuilding of The Catholic Church(06- 24- 2022)
I would like to share with you the beauty of my home town. It is located in Visayas region Bohol. Bohol is one of the famous tourist spot not only in the Philippines but around the world. My town has its own place to appreciate but not yet discover by the tourist like other places. Now I will share with you the story about Our Lady of Light Catholic Church that was built by the Spaniard who came to our place long time ago in Loon, Bohol.
This old picture was given to me by Ver Emata, my brother in law. He is the son of one of the pilgrim who visited our church before it was fallen by the 2013 earthquake
The new reconstructed Catholic church "Our Lady of Light Church", me and my sister.
Rebuilding of the church had successfully done. It turned into zero ground during the intensity 7.2 earthquake in my hometown. I visited 2019 and the debris was still on the ground. After three years, here I am standing once again with the Church. I remember those younger years of me together with my grandparent. We were inside this church every Sunday attending mass. The fiesta of our town was celebrated every 8 of September, the said birthday of Virgin Mary.
The stones or bricks that being used by the Spaniard were all reused in building this new church. The paint of the walls and ceiling of the entire church were being copied. The excellence of the architect and engineers are being appreciated. The hair of my body stand up upon getting inside the new clutch last month. The reconstruction of the outside and inside are all spectacular.
Town History
Tagbilaran City is the capital of Bohol, 28 kilometers away from the city, we can see our hometown Loon. The word LOON was being created because of the a spring called TUBIG-LOON, where we can find it in Poblacion area. Tubig-loon is a kind of processing or mixing the inland water by the big rocks that help blend the water from the higher part meeting the sea water. It is a natural way given by God.
Infront of the church, we can see this to welcome people or travelers from other places.
This is the monument of Dr.Jose Rizal , our national hero. We considered this as Loon Statue of Liberty. Taken last 2019 vacation
Taken this picture last month during the sunset. You can see how it looks so great when I was in the town plaza.
Waiting until night alone before my siblings came again.
This picture was taken during 2019 visits at it fall on Jamuary and there were still Christmas decoration.
The town plaza was being reconstructed after the 2013 earthquake and it was also devastated by the 2022 hurricane Odette. The plaza was not affected fatally but the church fall down to zero ground during the earthquake.
Thel old church was made of clay and stone and the stairways from the sea going uphill were also made of stones like the church. Spaniard amazingly made it perfectly. And the stone or bricks in my hand were part of the fallen Church. This area was the back part leading to the stoned built stairway.
Walking from the sea to the stairways upstairs to the church and plaza, the center attraction in town.
The new altar of the new reconstructed Catholic was the same . It was copied perfectly from the original design. My eyes rolled around looking the new Altar.
