Steemit Philippines Photography Contest Week 1 : Buddhist Temple's Rooftop at Jiufen

Rainy and gloomy but this didn't stop us from our whole day trip from Yehliu to Shifen Old Street and then our last destination, Jiufen. This tourist spot in Taiwan was known for its gold mining years ago. The mountains of Jiufen had gold before and were mined making this town a wealthy one and famous too! Many would flock here to capture its beauty and luxury. Then it just suddenly stopped, no more gold and the town was abandoned. It became a tourist spot instead and since then, tourists would also come and see the abandoned beauty of this once gold mining site.

Jiufen has this narrow yet filled with people of different races stopping by each restaurant and eatery by the sidewalk. There are so many things to try, many flavors to divulge and so many interesting things to capture yet we have a little time. Our tour guide again gave us clear instructions, we must be back an hour after, if not, we will have to figure out our own way of traveling back to Taipei. It sounds very cruel but the guide was just making sure that we won't be late on our way back as it was rainy and dark.

Also, with so many tourists, it is easy to get lost. So, our group tried to go together.

But my husband and I found this Buddhist temple while we were still outside. The group went their way but we were still trying to capture this statue on top of the rooftop facing the coast. It must look good on photos, the view is just mesmerizing, and because it is gloomy, it added to the image story and feel.

Does the statue look like someone bringing a torch or light on his hand and trying to light up the entire dark coast? What do you think?
