👉🏻#Club5050 | The Diary Game Season 3 (05-27-2022) | Visiting the Backyard Garden and Lettuce Harvest
On Friday, my brother celebrated his birthday. I prepared a vegetable salad for him. And I am so happy that I got to pick fresh lettuce for the salad. My father loves gardening and ever since he had retired from being a government employee, he had been working on his backyard garden. He also has raised chickens and he always starts his day spending time in the garden.
And because I have been away for a couple of months, I wasn't able to witness his garden blooming with so many pechay and lettuce. But my father was glad that I finally get to harvest lettuce. It's really hard to find fresh lettuce here in our province.
Lettuce is not abundant here in our area so those which are in the public market are not always fresh. So it was nice to have one straight from the garden. Plus, it's tastier.
Let me share with you what's going on at the garden.
These are the plants inside the mini garden house. There are cauliflower plants which are by the way already showing signs of flowers. There's the lettuce, they had harvested a few times before. This was actually my father's first time planting these kinds of vegetables.
Here, he planted cucumber too. They are looking good and healthy! He had prepared ladders for the plant to climb as cucumbers are climbing plants.
And of course, our local spinach is available in the backyard too. We have daily vegetable soup out of these and moringa leaves too as we have an abundant supply.
Papa also have a few chives. He loves having his omelette with lots of chives and so this explains why he planted them too.
As mentioned, my father also has pechay and they are looking good. There were so many produce a few months ago but they had already been harvested, most of them as we love having pechay for lunch included in pork soups, and we also saute it with soy sauce.
Here's the cauliflower that I was referring to earlier. They are showing and my father was ecstatic when upon seeing them. He can't contain his happiness because he has waited for a while. He mentioned he was supposed to plant broccoli too but he forgot where he put the seeds.
Here's one healthy pechay which we will have for breakfast tomorrow! There are seedlings waiting to be planted too soon so we can have supplied all year round.
And now we have reached the part where I will be harvesting lettuce for the vegetable salad. I picked those which are well grown already. I know in the city, lettuce area harvested from the root but here, we just decided to pick some leaves if we needed.
That's a container full of lettuce! The salad was also great! I forgot to take a photo of it though. I guess I will have to ask my brother first if he had taken a photo of it. I'll share that in the next blog instead.
