Philippines became a battle ground between US and Japan back in World War 2. Despite the independence of the Philippines given by the US in 1945, it cannot change the fact that many Filipinos died during the war, and also a result of colonization in our country.

Our province Pangasinan became a strategic location during the latter part of World War 2 as it became the door to eventually defeat Japanese troops. The American troops was accompanied by Australian soldiers too. The said war killed a lot of Pangasinan people after our place as well as nearby provinces became the battlefield.

It's already a part of our history, and nothing can be changed about it. Whoever won during the war doesn't matter, it killed a lot of people. Imagine the torment of those who lost their loved ones, the PTSD or trauma it left to the survivors.

The Lingayen Gulf World War 2 Shrine was renovated and launched in 2008 to commemorate the bravery of Filipino soldiers (war veterans), and some of the remaining artifacts mostly are from the US and Australian troops. Led by General Douglas Macarthur, the US troops landed in Lingayen Gulf on January 1945, and was being observed by the province since the recent decades.

That's me with the airplane used by the American soldiers then. It actually undergone repainting because it looks very old back when I was a child.

This was already mounted in this area. Repainting was also done because it has been bearing with the heat and cold of the rain or sunshine.

That's the open museum. It's not that huge, and there are not much stuff in there. No tour guide as well. However, there are posted explanations of what happened during the war. You'll surely learn from the history by visiting this place.

There are other places here in our town which are already standing before World War 2, and has survived but had undergone severe damages like those structures surrounding the shrine.

I could just imagine the trauma that is caused by this war to Filipinos. I am just glad this is now all in the past. Salute to all the war veterans.
