It is not for nothing that the unifying slogan of the website of the Ministry of tourism and leisure is “ALL OF AFRICA IN ONE COUNTRY”.

Elsewhere, Cameroon is called Africa in miniature. Meaning that each part of Africa is represented in Cameroon and that if someone visits Cameroon, he/she has visited the whole of Africa.
There are more than 250 languages spoken by the different cultural groups and peoples are a testimony that Cameroon is culturally one of African’s richest countries at the level of languages, dance, song, food and crafts.

From the Njang dance of the Northwest region and the Eseiwey, Ambasibey and Assiko of the littoral region to the Moni nkim, Ngundjo and Malley dances of the southwest regions, and mbaya of the Center region not leaving out the famous Merengue, Cameroon can be said to be truly blessed with variety.

Some of these dances are of authentic native origins with no modern interference, no foreign interferences. The dances make great use of certain parts of the body. For example, the moni nkim dance which is peculiar of the Manyu woman, is seductively executed with the lead dancer carrying a little bundle on her head, decorated with jewelries, and smiles while dancing, bending and shaking her buttocks.
This is similar to the Assiko dance of the littoral region common amongst the bassa people. The dancers wind their waists in athletic twists, taking quick steps to occupy the stage. The Ngolos, and the bakweries of the Ndian and fako divisions perform the elephant dance also called the Malley dance, by emphasizing their shoulders. Njang and Bendskin also include quick body twists and sudden turns.
The Mbaya, which is common to the people of bafia of the center region is calm but involves all the body. Noticeably, the dancers move three steps forward and two steps backward.
This is just a bird view of Cameroon’s dance, hundreds of which are still to be celebrated here in Cameroon.
Hey that was a brief summary of Cameroon heritage. I will invite @ruthjoe, @goodybest, @pea07 to come and share their culture with us.
Kind regards
@fonjougiresse
