A Day With My Eldest Son

"Mom, what's our " sud-an?" This is our bisaya term for " viand ". This is what my eldest has always asked.

Honestly, this "viand" thing. It gives me a hard time thinking of what to cook from time to time. Plus the tinkling speed of time is unbeatable. We just had breakfast, then suddenly it was lunchtime, then all of a sudden it's time to cook for dinner again. My helping body is also asking what dish to prepare too. This is the one thing that tortured me while just staying at home.

Plus, whenever I asked my son what dish he wanted, there is also no sensible answer other than the usual, "anything". There comes another blow. His answer seems pleasant to hear, like wow! this child is easy to feed, you hear that ... "anything" is ok with him. But when the dish is ready and at one glance he doesn't like it, he will suddenly frown and ask, "is there nothing else?"

Wow, as usual my ears will turn red, with a snap answer, "you said anything is ok"...
"please son, don't be choosy because we are not rich"... next to this is the long exchange of in and out reasoning which will go far somewhere. Even if I will win, I will still lose when he doesn’t eat. Of course, I'll worry when he gets sick. It will be a big trouble then, so in the end I'll still lose.

It looks like this is how we bonded with my 11yrs old son while staying at home. This type of convo seems normal for us to start with. You see, it's not just per day, but per meal. So everytime I plan to prepare a dish, he comes first in my mind.

While for my youngest, whatever there is on the table he doesn't care. Either banana or milk as his "sud-an" it's ok with him. So I really wonder if this "hard to feed" is my son's usual thing.

"No ate", my help mate said...(in our place, " ate" is a call to respect the elderly... yes elderly🙂)
"he just ate whatever food we have whenever you were not around." She continued.

Ah see, so it's only now that he seems "acting" because I'm around.

Alright, so today I really went out to find the food he wanted. Luckily I caught up with the delicious barbecue around the nearest street. Our house is a bit far from the road, so I'm very happy when I was able to catch up with this delicious street food.

I know this is one of his favorites. When there was no such restriction yet, often times he asked me, "mom bring us barbecue when you come home".

It's been quite a while since I brought him this food. Plus I prefer to just stay at home, and I'm now too lazy to go out. Not to mention the frequent rain ... I don't bother to go out for longer days already. So the moment I saw this "bbq" as if the lord around those times was leading me to find it here.

This "sud-an" problem does not end here. Tomorrow is another day to resolve. I'll just wait till it comes.
So, that ends today's story of my son and me. Thanks for visiting my post. Now it's your turn to share whatever bonding moment you have with your kids too.

Till then, keep safe.

Cheers,
