Dear Uchechi,

How are you? If you reading this, then I know you got my letter. This letter is from your future self, writing to applaud you for how fast you have grown. I know right now; your future is the least of things that you want to think about, when you must be thinking about where and who you’d play with.

When I was your age, I was loud, playful and audacious which is okay but as I grew up, I built a shell around me. A shell that born out of inferiority complex, the feeling of not being good enough, the feeling that others had it better than I did, the feeling that God has rejected me, because I thought ’why would God not answer my prayers when I needed an answer the most'. It took time, but thank God, I pulled that stage.

If you must survive your 20s, this are lists of things you should make out time for.

Be your true self: This is the only way you can fully achieve your purpose and vision on earth. It is not going to be easy, with families and friends who might want you to be somebody else that does not reflect who you really are.

Have close relationships with your family but know when to draw the line: Family will always give you advise to guide you in the future, but be careful which you choose. You should not live the dreams of your parents for them, because you will end up being frustrated. From the course you will study, to the person you marry to other important decisions. I don’t mean you should not accept advise, but know when an advice is likely to backfire in the future.

Invest in yourself: Personal investment is the best investment one can ever make. Don’t waste any time, read books, watch value packed movies, don’t stay idle and don’t fill your time with frivolous activities. Internet has made it easy that one can learn almost anything online, businesses are moving online, technology is taking the world by a storm, don’t be left behind. Learn digital skills and supplement them with soft skills, build your knowledge bank.

Attend offline and online events. Don’t be loner. Even if you are an introvert, it should not stop you from building and expanding your network. Your temperament should not be an excuse to limit your growth.

Volunteer: In order to master the skills and education you have gotten, you must volunteer. Money should not be the first target as you grow, master your skills by offering your services, learn from other people, volunteer in companies, organizations, participate in community services. You improve in your skill and also build your network. This way when you charge for what you do, you charge high because you know you can deliver a perfect job.

Keep a journal: keep a record of every experience of your journey. A journal you can always keep to reflect the goodness of God, and appreciate how far you have gone since you started.

Build a brand: Thanks to social media, you don’t have to see people physical to become visible and well-known to people. There’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Steemit, Pinterest, YouTube, amongst others.

Always get enough sleep: As you grow, you will be tempted greatly by the internet. Don’t get carried away by it. It will tell on your health and productivity. Take care of your health, go for checkups, don’t overwork yourself. Sleep when you are tired but don’t be lazy and complacent.

Eat healthy. Don’t joke with what you eat. Don’t eat much junk food, cook and buy well prepared meals that nourish the body.

Finally, push yourself to be the best version you can ever be. Never settle for less. Treat yourself when you succeed but never be too comfortable with the victory, upgrade yourself to be useful at all times.

You will be successful if you follow these tips, don’t let anyone push you around. Never misplace this letter because it will guide you to be successful in your endeavors. It is okay to dream wide, dreams do come true but only if take actions to fulfill them.

Yours future self
@yuceetoria

I invite @annabel9, @confydence and @goodybest to take part in this contest.

Sort:

Several useful advice has been passed unto your younger self, which I believe she will adhere to, and looking at what her older self has become I am certain she will be proud of it all.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you @olabillions, we grow everyday.
