Hello Steemers,
I am happy. How about you all. For the past few days I am busy with my semester exams, So I cannot spend much time in Steemit. I am back to steemit now with more knowledgeable content to be shared with you guys.

Today Iam going to share you how a Bike/Car engine works in simple ways.

Working of Engine
An Engine is a mechanical device which convert Fuel into Rotary motion by the process of combustion. Petrol/Diesel is inserted into engine is burnt and that force produce the rotary motion which rotates the wheel to ride the vehicle.

What are the parts in the engine

  • Crankshaft
  • Connecting Rod
  • Piston
  • Cylinder
  • Spark Plug
  • Inlet/Outlet Valve

There are two type of Engine available in bikes. One is Two stroke engine and other is Four stroke engine. We will Discuss about Four stroke engine because it is used most now a days.

In Four Stroke engine there are four cycle operation inside the engine, so it is known as Four Stroke engine.

Cycle 1: Intake Cycle
In the Intake cycle the Fuel mixed with air is passed into the engine cylinder through the inlet valve.

Inlet valve - open
Outlet valve - closed
Crankshaft rotation - 180°

Cycle 2: Compression Cycle
In the Compression cycle the cylinder with mixture of fuel and air is compressed by the piston by the reverse movement of the crankshaft. During compressed state the fuel will produce higher energy.

Inlet valve - closed
Outlet valve - closed
Crankshaft rotation - 180°(total 360°)

Cycle 3: Power Cycle
In the Power cycle, the compressed mixture of fuel and air is ignited with the spark plug. The combustion of the fuel in compressed state produce higher amount of energy than normal state. Due to high combustion energy from fuel the piston is again moved downwards.

Inlet valve - closed
Outlet valve - closed
Crankshaft rotation - 180°(total 540°)

Cycle 4: Exhaust Cycle
After the combustion the exhaust gas is transfered out through the Outlet valve by the reverse movement of the Piston. From the four cycle the cramkshaft completes 720 of rotation. This process continues again when accelerater is given to the engine.

Inlet valve - closed
Outlet valve - open
Crankshaft rotation - 180°(total 720°)
