Hello friends, I am pleased to present a series of tutorials about coaching, in this first part I will be writing a little about how the term coaching arises, its bases and finally its meaning, so let's start:

Origin of Coaching

This word alludes to a carriage that existed in the city Kocs in Hungary, this unique carriage was different from the others due to powerful damping system that allowed more comfortable trips.

The carriage was called Kocsi, in the German language kutsche, in Italian cocchio and in Spanish car, hence the term is derived to what is now coaching which is the comparison of this carriage where the trip that is made in coaching from a point to where we want to reach is done in a more comfortable and quiet way. The coach in this case will guide us facilitating the path where we want to be.

What are its bases

Philosophy and its various currents have been the main basis of coaching.

The Greek sophist Protagoras said "Man is the measure of all things" there he explained the idea of relativism conditioning, that everything was relative and that the truth or falsehood of any statement were produced through intrinsic or internal factors of the human being and extrinsic factors that were those that came from the outside, which shaped each person's perception of the world.

They also have their bases in the Socratic dialogues that were based on questions and answers being used this technique in the method of coaching.

Currently it is also based on the phenomenology of Husserl, the ontology of language based on authors such as Maturana, Flores, Echevarría, the humanistic psychology of Maslow and Rogers, the existentialism of Sartre, the logotherapy of Frankl and other currents that have given life to what coaching is.

Coaching was also influenced by Gallwey who was a sports coach who got a training technique that broke paradigms.

Thomas J. Leonard founded the International Coach Federation and Londoner John Whitmore is one of the great references of current coaching.

Now, we already saw how the term coaching arises, what are the bases that base it, so now the question we must ask ourselves is what is coaching

Coaching is a technique and a process of accompaniment through which a coach accompanies a person to achieve their goals, maximizing the internal and external potential of the individual who is becoming aware of where he is and where he wants to go, the coach understands that people have the resource to achieve what he wants and if he does not develop them so that the individual discovers for himself how to do it.

Coaching has the particularity to other disciplines that the coach is a non-managerial coach where he uses the resources that the individual has to achieve his goal, and in case of not having them, he has the ability to develop them and discover for himself how to do it, becoming aware of the difficulties and new ways of approaching their challenges, the coach helps you in a non-directive way so that the person implements the changes that are necessary to achieve the goal.

Well friends, roughly this is coaching and its bases, in a next opportunity I will write the key factors to perform a good coaching, the skills of a coach and some strategies that coaches use to accompany and direct.
