Benefits of Potatoes:

1.Blood pressure control:

  • A diet low in sodium is necessary to control blood pressure. But it also needs more potassium. Blood pressure can be easily controlled as these two things are present in proper amount in potatoes.

2.For the heart:

  • Potatoes contain fiber, potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6, which help control cholesterol. Controlling cholesterol keeps the heart healthy.

3.Freedom from Cancer:

  • Potatoes contain folate which protects DNA. Helps build and repair. This results in the destruction of cells that can cause cancer. Besides, the fiber present in potatoes helps to get rid of colon cancer.

Disadvantages or side-effects of Potatoes:

1. Eating excess potatoes can cause diarrhea. Green potatoes are toxic because they contain 3-3-alkaloids such as solenine, chaconine, and arsenic. As a result, overdose of this chemical can be fatal.

2. Potatoes have a very high glycemic index, so people who are obese or trying to lose weight or suffer from diabetes should avoid eating potatoes.

3. Increased consumption of potatoes increases complications like blood sugar imbalance, loss of appetite, type 2 diabetes.
