Color blindness also known as color vision deficiency is a common condition in which you don’t see colors in the traditional way. This occur when cones, cone is a nerves cell in retina, so when it is not working perfectly well it lead to colour blindness. Cones process light and images as they enter your eye and send signals to your brain that allow you to perceive color.

Color blindness usually doesn’t mean you can’t colors. The vast majority of people with color blindness see a range of colors, but they see some colors differently compare to the way others sees it. They may also have difficulty telling the difference between certain colors. Some very rare forms of color blindness make a person unable to see any colors.

It's worthy of note that for most people, color blindness is inherited (hereditary). That means it’s passed down from your biological parents — from the mother or birthing parent in the most common red-green forms of color blindness. But you can also acquire color vision deficiency later in life due to medical conditions too.

If you or your child has color blindness, it’s important to learn the type and severity. Talk to an optometrist or ophthalmologist about the nature of the condition and how it may affect you.

Types of Colour blindness

Red-green color deficiency
Red-green color deficiency is the most common type of color blindness. It affects how you see any colors that have some red or green in them.
Red-green color blindness is much more common among men and people assigned male at birth compared to women.
They are 4 main subtypes of red colour blindness

  1. Protanopia
  2. Deuteranopia
  3. Protanomaly
  4. Deuteranomaly

Blue-yellow color deficiency
Blue-yellow color vision defects (tritan defects)
Blue-yellow color blindness includes

  1. Tritanopia
  2. Tritanomaly
Underlying causes of colour blindness.

Causes of colour blindness
Color blindness can be either;

  • Inherited
  • Acquired
The causes are different in each case. And also greater precent is given to those that are hereditary or inherited.

Causes of inherited color blindness
A mutation to your genes causes inherited color blindness.

The most common form, red-green color blindness, follows an X-linked recessive inheritance pattern. Conditions inherited in this way usually affect babies AMAB and are rare among babies AFAB. Here’s a breakdown of the genetics for red-green color blindness.

Causes of acquired color blindness
Acquired color blindness, which usually develops as blue-yellow color deficiency, has many possible causes. These include:

  • Exposure to chemicals that harm your nervous system, such as organic solvents, solvent mixtures and heavy metals.
  • Long-term exposure to welding lights.
  • Medications, including hydroxychloroquine to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.
Acquired color blindness is less common than inherited forms as stated early before.
Can colour blindness in severe case be a cause of complete vision loss?(Is it a myth or truth justify)

I'm not in support of the myth that colour blindness lead to complete lose of vision colour blindness is a mild eye condition even if some colour blindness can lead to a serious eye disease if not probably acted upon with urgency.

I'm inviting @patjewell @goodybest @ngoenyi and @moyeon

I could vote this twice if I am opportune to, you took so much time out to elaborate on the different causes of color blindness as well as it types.

I like your conclusion as to saying color blindness can never cause physical damage to the eye in any way.
