What Do You Know About Smoking? Have You Ever Seen Someone Smoke Or Heard About It?
Smoking is the process of taking in (ingesting) and sending out dried burnt plant or other substance through the mouth or nose and this can be done through mediums such as the use of hand pipes, bongs, joints, do it yourself disposable devices, dabrigs, among others.
Hearing about someone smoking is an understatement as it has become the order of the day for both young and old people in my locality, so yes I have seen numerous number of people smoke on different occasions.
Why Do You Think Smoking Is Harmful To Our Health? What Are Some Of The Risk And Dangers Associated With Smoking?
Smoking is harmful to our health as it exposes us to both minor and major ailment thereby decreasing our chances of survival, it creates a portal for ill health which could be avoided if abstinence is practiced. The presence of nicotine in smoke makes it seem nearly impossible for smokers to do away with it and with time they get addicted to it.
Research has it that at least 69% component found in smoke are known to cause cancer of various types. Therefore some of the risk and dangers associated with smoking among others are:
• Increased risk of having tuberculosis
• Smokers are prone to have heart disease
• Smoke causes mental issues
• In women, it can lead to having fertility issues
• Smoking can lead to mental issues
• Smoking generally weakens the immune system.
Can You Think Of Any Reason Why People Might Start Smoking, Even Though They Know It's Harmful?
People have various reasons for smoking and some of the reasons includes:
• To get inspired when carrying out tasks( boost morale)
• Some people smoke just for fun
• Most people engage in this act to relief theirselves of stress
• To be accepted in a circle of friends (peeer pressure)
• For ecstasy purpose
• To suppress depression
Do You Know Anyone Who Smokes? How Does Their Smoking Affect Them And Those Around Them?
Yes I am aware of countless people who engage in this act, like I said earlier it has become a norm in my locality not minding the repercussion.
I feel if the accounting law which states that "to every debit entry there must be a corresponding credit entry be applied to smoking, it won't be wrong. In essence, the same problem a smoker faces is what you as a secondhand smoker will face, it is advisable you flee from a smoke polluted area to avoid making the law true when it comes to a smoker and those in the scene.
Smoking creates an unhealthy environment for both parties thereby exposing them to all health related issues.
What Are Some Strategies Or Ways We Can Encourage People To Quit Smoking Or Prevent Others from Starting?
We can encourage people to quit smoking by :
• Ensuring that they keep off from people who smokes and also making sure that smoke related materials are out of bound
• Establishing a smoke abstinence programme and encouraging them to take active part
• Taking drastic measures with people who are involved in selling smoke
• Since quitting smoking takes processes, it will be advisable to encourage those undergoing this process and never try to judge them rather help them accomplish that dream which might have been the reason they got involved in the act just to suppress depression.
