"The Dangers of Drug Abuse"

Hello and good morning to all my healthy friends, I hope you had a splendid night rest?. I thank God I am among the living today. And happy weekend to you all. My my country we use to say "thank God it is Friday", so make sure you make the best out of it and don't always forget to stay healthy because good health is your asset.

Drug Abuse is a very deadly menace that is threatening the lives of our young people and the end result is either loss of memory, that's becoming mentally deranged or sometimes drug abuse can cause death. If not properly handled.
So please let parents, guardians, friends etc be on the look out for their wards in order to control or put a check to this menace.

That's why I must appreciate @sahmie8 for organizing this contest by giving us the opportunity to engage and also learn from each other.

👉Explain in your understanding what "Drug Abuse" is all about and mention some commonly abused drugs in our environment.

Drug Abuse:-Is the use of illegal or excessive self prescribed drugs or over-the-counter drugs for the purposes other than what it is meant to be used for. Either to derived pleasure, thereby causing harm or creating deadly effects to the brain or the entire body system generally. Drug abuse may lead to emotional, physical, social, and even job-related problems.

Some commonly abused drugs in our environment are;-

• cocaine

• heroin

• Indian hemp

• cigarettes

• Alcohol

• Tobacco

• sedative drugs etc.

👉What are some common dangers of drug abuse that we should address

The use of illegal drugs can cause a varieties of health problems both psychologically and physically either in a short period of time or in a long term depending on the body system of an individual.

1: It can deteriorate your mental health; thereby causing harm to your brain

2: poor academic performance in the case of students.

3: It can cause death

4: Violence

5: suicides

6: It can cause rape

7: psychological addiction, that is what illegal drugs does.

👉How can we promote awareness and prevention of drug abuse in our communities

How to promote awareness is to organize free workshops for drugs abuse in the community either in schools, churches,parks .
Organizing talk shows on drugs abuse on the television and radio by educating the masses about the danger involve in the use of illicit drugs.

Prevention of drug abuse in our community:-

• Avoid peer pressure

• Examine your mental health often

• Develop close family ties by sharing a close relationship with your family members.

• Have a coping mechanism; what this means is that don't fall back on drugs while depressed or having negative feelings.

• Abstinence: This is very important, don't even start what you can finish.

• Make sure to use only prescribed drugs.

👉What are some effective ways to support individuals who are struggling with drug addiction?

• By encouraging them to get treatment or help

• By educating them about the danger associating with the use of the drugs to their brains, do not condemned them.

• Avoid supporting the addiction financially

• Don't expect that a one time conversation would help fix the person, keep up talking or advising.

Although this question is the same as number 2 question but asked in a different way.

How we can educate young people in a relatable and engaging way about drugs abuse is by organizing workshops and symposium; by these we would come in physical contact with them one on one, through learning and interactions. Getting to ask them some questions and also getting a corresponding response in return. This can go a long way to salvage the situation.
