Contest: A world addicted to Junk Food

Hello my friends. Today I am going to talk about junk foods. First of all I would like to thank @sahmie for this contest.

what are the junk foods?

The more highly processed food items usually fall under the junk food category. They have little or no nutritional value but do have plenty of calories, salt and fats which are not good for a healthy life. In the present we can see there are so many fast food shops along the streets. It is very difficult for people to escape from the different types of attractive smells coming out from those shops while walking on the road. But it is better to keep in our mind all fast foods are not junk foods, many of them are. Fast foods are ready-to-eat foods which served after ordering quickly. Some fast foods are high in calories and low in nutritional value, while other fast foods may be low in calories and high in nutritional value. That's why I said not all fast foods are junk foods. You can easily identify the junk foods which they are high in fat, salt and sugar.

Junk foods include,

  • Snacks like potato chips
  • Crackers
  • French fries
  • Pizza
  • Sodas
  • Hamburgers
  • Candy

Why people are addicted to or prefer junk food more?
  • In the present the main reason for the addiction to the junk food is the busy schedule of the people. Junk food is everywhere that you can easily buy.
  • Another reason is healthier foods cost more. But junk foods are cheap compared to the healthier foods.
  • Junk foods are rich in sweets, salts, fats, etc. So they are rich in taste. People always addicted to the taste. Not for the nutrition. After developing an addiction, you will just want to eat more and more junk foods.
Are they healthy for consumption?

The only answer for this question is NO. Because eating junk foods regularly can put you at risk for obesity and chronic diseases. Following are some harmful effects of eating junk foods.

  • Diabetes
  • Cancers
  • High cholesterol
  • Liver diseases
  • Dental problems
  • Skin problems
  • Depression
What are the ways we can avoid from junk foods?
  • My dear friends, first you identify what are the junk foods which are not good for our health and make a list of them.

  • Take the first step from your home. Because grocery stores are not the only place you can find junk foods. Head to the places like refrigerator, cupboards and freezer etc where you preferred to store the food items in your home. If you have a good knowledge on junk foods, you can easily find so many junk food items in your home. Make sure not to bring those foods to your home next time and be prefer for healthy foods which you can make in your home.

  • While selecting the foods for your meals, give the first priority for the nutritional value. Not for the taste.

  • Of course, It can be hard to fit in a delicious home-cooked plate. But take the first step. Slowly slowly you will be able to prefer for that.
