Hello everyone, good evening to you guys, welcome back to my blog. Most of the illness people suffer today is as a result of consuming processed food, people should eat more of organic food in order to stay healthy.

Processed food can be defined as foods that have been changed from their natural state through several methods such as Canning, Heating, adding sugar, adding preservatives, packaging e.t.c. The main purpose of processing food is to prevent the entry of microorganisms and prolong the shelf life of food.

Various Forms of Processing food
  • Pasteurization
    This involves using temperature below 100°C to kill Microorganisms in order to extend the shelf life of food. It is mostly used to process food like milk, wine e.t.c.

  • Freezing
    This is freezing food below 0°C temperature in order to stop the activities of Microorganisms.

  • Sterilization
    This involves using temperature as high as 100°C to kill Microorganisms in order to increase the shell life of food. It is mostly used to process food that will stay for a longer period of time example canned food.

How processed food are for our health?(Healthy or unhealthy).

Most processed food are harmful to health while some are not harmful. Pasteurization is used to process milk because it contains Microorganisms which is very harmful to health.

Most times, in the process of processing food, their is usually loss of nutrient. Eating too much processed meat can cause Cancer. Canned drinks also contains unhealthy sugar which when consumed much can cause obesity. Processed food also contains high amount of sodium which can cause high blood pressure.

How much processed food you utilize on weekly basis?

Well I'm also guilty of consuming processed, but I try as much as possible to cook my meals by myself. The few processed food that I consume is packaged biscuits but I'm trying everything possible to start baking my biscuits myself. These days I also use more of natural spices like ginger, garlic and tumeric in cooking.
