Hi there steemians how are you all doing today I hope all is well as for me I'm perfectly fine, today I will be taking part in an amazing contest here in the healthy steem community with the theme "Protect your Mental Health from Social media Dangers"
Social media was introduced to us not so long ago and I could remember when I was still a kid the first social media platform I heard of by that time was 2go but today there are numerous kinds of social media platforms some of which I myself have not even heard of before.
WHAT IS “SOCIAL MEDIA” IN YOUR LIFE, AND HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DO YOU SPEND ON IT?
According to my own personal understanding social media can simply be defined as any social means of interaction that people uses to create, share, communicate and exchange information with one another virtually.
And when it comes to the number of hours I spend on social media hmm, to me it's not that much since I'm a very busy guy because I really dedicate and devote all my time to my work because that's my everything
So due to my busy schedules and a lot of work time I'd always spend a maximum of one hour a day on social media and that is on steemit and it's always every night when I'm back from work.
NAME FIVE WAYS SOCIAL MEDIA CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE AND THAT OF YOUR LOVED ONES.
Social media is indeed very much capable of impacting both our lives and that of our love ones negatively, and some of the ways include;
- Poor mental health
- Isolation
- Timidity
- Fear of missing out
- Misinformation
POOR MENTAL HEALTH
Being addicted to a social media platform like Instagram can definitely lead to a person developing a poor mental health outcome by constantly looking down on his/her self due to the life of luxury the person sees online.
ISOLATION
Being addicted to social media life can definitely cause a person to isolate and distance his or her self from the social group and chooses to always be alone.
TIMIDITY
The addiction to social media can definitely promote amongst people's a decline in face to face community and may only choose and able to communicate freely with people online only but when it comes to face to face it's a no go area.
FEAR OF MISSING OUT
The fear of missing out mentality is indeed a very bad influence on people including myself as 24/7 a person's mine will be wondering if there's something going on online that he or she is missing out thus will always want to be facing his or her phone which is indeed a very bad impact.
MISINFORMATION
The spread of fake news is very common nowadays and it is through the social media that most people most likely get misinform which is indeed a negative impact.
IF YOU HAD TO IMPLEMENT 5 RULES TO MAKE SURE THAT SOCIAL MEDIA BECAME HEALTHIER IN YOUR ENVIRONMENT, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
That would be just very simple just like it is done here on the steemit platform the only thing I would do to make social media a little bit healthier than the way it is now would be through;
The implementation of community rules which some of those rules may include;
- Maintaining the act of originality in terms of contents
- No sexual or porn content of any kind
- No violent content of any kind
- The use of foul language should be strictly prohibited
- And lastly the 18+ rules should be strictly observe
All of the above mentioned rules would be properly check by a group of team to ensure that the offenders of such laws are either suspended or block permanently so as to serve as a means of lesson to others which would in turn help maintain a user friendly environment for everyone.
