What is sugar and what are its main types?

Sugar is a sweet substance. Sugar means sweet-tasting which is a carbohydrate that comes from different plants such as sugarcane. Sugar is mostly used as a sweetener in tea, beverages, and foods.

There are different types of sugar and the five main types of sugar are the ones mentioned below.

Glucose: This is one of the most common sugars that is mostly used energy source.

Maltose: This is the type of sugar with disaccharide that consists of two glucose molecules which is mostly found in beverage and malted food.

Sucrose: It is a disaccharide sugar composed of fructose and glucose which is popularly called table sugar since it is gotten from sugar cane.

Fructose: It is a common type of sugar that is found in honey and fruit. This type of sugar is naturally sweet.

Lactose: It is a disaccharide type of sugar that is commonly found in milk.


What are the effects of excessive sugar consumption on health?

Too much excessive sugar consumption on health can lead us to have many negative health issues such as the ones I have discussed below.

Weight gain and obesity: Too much intake of sugar can contribute to weight gain and obesity.

Diabetes: Too much intake of sugar can lead to insulin resistance, precursor.

Heart disease: Excessive sugar can increase the risk of having heart disease. Since sugar contributes to obesity high triglycerides, information, high blood pressure, and so on.


What are some healthy alternatives to refined sugar?

There are so many healthy alternatives to refund sugar that can be used to sweeten beverages and foods without affecting our health negatively some of these alternative ways are:

Honey: Honey is naturally sweetened with antimicrobial and sweeteners Honey is sweeter than even sugar so we can use less quantity of honey.

Coconut 🥥 Sugar: This contains nutrients and a lower glycemic than the normal sugar we do take.

Fruit purees: This is a sugar that is gotten from fruits like apples, bananas, or dates that can add natural sweeteners to recipes.

Stevie: This is a natural sweetener that is obtained from the leaves of the stevia plant. It contains zero calories.


Is it necessary to consume some sugar? Explain your reasons.

Yes, I think it is necessary to consume sugar since our body does need some form of carbohydrates for energy. However below is the more why it is necessary.

Energy source: Glucose which is a type of sugar helps us to regain lost energy.

Carbohydrates: Our body needs sugar for the digestion of food.

Brain function: Our brain relies on glucose to function properly, which means low blood sugar can lead to less congestive function of our brain.

Balance diets: Sugar can be used for a variety of nutrients.
