Paralysis is a medical condition which can be traced to loss of muscles or active cells in the human body. It can be caused by various factors, including injury, disease, or congenital conditions.

Types of Paralysis

I thought paralysis was paralysis weather it is on the hand, leg or any other part of the body. I never knew it could have different names.
Let's take a look at some of the names:

Monoplegia

I've come to know that paralysis that affects only one limb, either an arm or a leg is called monopolegia makes either of the limb totally bound. It results in weakness, stiffness, or complete destruction of motor function in the affected limb.

This has reminded me of Blessing,my boss's niece. She is a twin and very beautiful, always smiling and looking cheerful.
She has one side of her wrist and leg bend making them look very small and makes walking difficult.
Because of her cheerful nature I call her my friend.
So one day a colleague of mine who knows them saw me standing with her told me that she was very sick when she was small and as a result of the sickness, she became disfigured till today . O how I feel for so much each time I see her.
She is now in Senior secondary 2 and doing well in her studies.
Maybe that type of her paralysis could be monopolegia which could be as a result of nerve damage or compression

But I think that people who suffers from this monopolegia might have had Symptoms of pain or numbness or weakness of one arm or leg before the actual paralysis .

So that means whenever we feel a change in our body system, we should pay close attention to it and look for a way to treat it immediately to avoid had I known.

Hemiplegia

This is another type of paralysis that affects one side of the body resulting in weakness, stiffness, or complete malfunction of arm and leg on the affected side. It can be traced to damage in the brain or spinal cord example could be stroke or brain injury or even infection
which is not treated can lead to this type of paralysis.

Unlike monopolegia, hemiplegia also has symptoms that should not be overlooked:

~paralysis of half of the body
~Decreased reflexes of the body
~presence of pain in the body
~Limited range of motion
~Difficulty with balance and stamina.

I have seen so many people with this condition now I know the type of paralysis they have.

The next type of paralysis I will look into is

Paraplegia

Paraplegia is a type of paralysis that affects the lower half of the body, it result in weakness, stiffness, or complete loss of motor function in the parts affected. It is often caused by damage to the spinal cord.
This makes me remember one woman, married with beautiful children. I felt so bad the first day I saw her on the road crawling . Her two legs are very weak and she wears slippers on her hand to protect it from bruises. She is a business woman and does not miss market days.

On several occasions I went to a church I saw her there with her children dancing happily and twisting her back with joy.
She was very joyful in the presence of the Lord. But I have never for one day seen her husband.

Treatment for paralysis

I think paralysis can be treated weather
monopolegia, hemiplegia or Paraplegia
by doing frequent exercise, taking medications for pain, using assistive device such as crutches and in some cases surgery to relieve nerve compression or repair damage.

How long it takes to Recover from Paralysis .

Recovery time from paralysis varies greatly depending on the underlying cause, severity, and individual factors of which finance can be a barrier. Some people may experience partial or full recovery, while others may not recover at all.
For Temporary paralysis e.g., stroke
recovery time may take several weeks to months( average 3-6 months), of which
70-90% of cases of people may recover fully.

For Spinal cord injury, recovery time varies greatly because it may take years to recover Fully. But in some cases people with Spinal cord paralysis often spend their lives using wheelchair.

For Traumatic brain injury, recovery time could take weeks to months while there may be no recovery for permanent paralysis.

Conclusion

It's essential to consult a healthcare professional for personalized information and guidance on recovery from paralysis as no human will want to be termed handicapped and take seriously any sign our body gives us to look into a remedy.

I invite @emmaprince,@Inem and @ekemini5 to participate in this contest
