WHAT IS BLOOD?

Blood is a body fluid and tissue on which life is possible. It is a specialized body fluid, it has four main components; plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The circulation of blood is what keeps us alive,as the blood carries oxygen and food nutrients necessary for existence.

Blood has many different functions including: forming blood clots to prevent excess blood loss, carrying cells and antibodies that fight infection and so on.
Blood is so important that when lost may cause fall of blood pressure, paleness and dizziness. Blood loss can be caused by child birth, surgery, trauma, stomach ulcer, cancer, or simply an open injury.

According to information from the red cross and mayo clinic, it takes between 600 and 650 kilocalories of energy for the blood to replace the content of a pint of blood. However, the body has an amazing capacity to replace all the cells and fluids that have been lost by a simple meal such as: red meat, poultry, fish, green vegetables, unripe plantain and so on.
