What are hormones and what are their functions in the human body?

Hormones are special chemicals made by glands in our body. They help to send messages from one part of the body to another. Hormones control many important things like how we grow, how we feel, how our body uses food, and even how we sleep. Without hormones, our body won’t work properly.


Name any three hormones and briefly mention their roles.


Three Important Hormones and Their Functions


Insulin – This hormone helps to control the amount of sugar in the blood. When insulin is not working well, it can lead to diabetes.

Adrenaline – This is also called the "fight or flight" hormone. It helps us respond quickly when we are in danger or afraid by making the heart beat faster and giving us more energy.

Estrogen – This is a female hormone that helps with the development of the body during puberty and also controls the menstrual cycle.

Yes, or at least I think so. Sometimes when I eat too much junk food or don’t sleep well, I notice changes in my mood. I feel more tired, get angry easily, and even have skin breakouts. I’ve read that these can be signs of hormonal imbalance. Many people, especially teenagers, go through this because our bodies are still developing.


How can we maintain a healthy hormonal balance in our daily life?


How can we keep our hormones balanced?


To maintain healthy hormones, here are some simple things we can do: Eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, sleep well, at least 7 to 8 hours every night, drink enough water and stay hydrated, avoid too much sugar and processed food, exercise regularly to keep the body active, stay away from stress or learn how to manage it.


Hormones may be small, but they do big work in our bodies. When they are balanced, we feel good, look healthy, and grow well. But when they are not, we can feel sick or weak. That’s why it’s important to take care of ourselves every day.
