"My day with my four footed friend/friends (12) 🙂" - The City Through a Dog's Eyes
The day unfolded with a long stroll through the city center. As a true canine connoisseur of street art, my dog, Lucky, naturally led me to a local spot where a vibrant flamingo awaited. Before the bartender could suggest one of his cocktail creations, mixed with a shake, we quickly bid farewell and continued our journey. After all, Lucky, named for his fortunate rescue from the streets, is happy and content without alcohol. You can read about him in a previous post.
We found ourselves in front of one of Sofia's iconic gardens, where people love to spend their time. The garden is called Crystal, and in it stands a monument to a very important figure for Bulgaria. Stefan Stambolov played a pivotal role in stabilizing Bulgaria after the 1886 coup, effectively steering the nation clear of Russian influence. As Prime Minister from 1887 to 1894, he enacted impactful reforms, guiding Bulgaria towards independence and modernization. The monument symbolically depicts his severed head, representing his tragic death. It was at this spot in the garden on July 3, 1895, that Stambolov was assassinated, brutally attacked by Macedonian militants wielding yataghans.
We proceeded to Theater 199 and its Wall of Fame. Founded in 1965, the theater earned its name from the 199 seats it originally had. Interestingly, Theater 199 doesn't have a permanent troupe; all teams, including directors and actors, are guest performers. The Wall of Actor's Glory, a unique feature in Bulgaria, serves as an analogue to Hollywood's Walk of Fame. The first handprints were installed for the theater's 30th anniversary.
And one of the urban gates of residential blocks. It's common in the central part for people to refresh their doors in this way. Colorful and cool for the mood.
And a little time to meet some new buddies.
And one of my favorite spots, along with my little four-legged friend, is the square in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theater. Besides being one of the most beautiful buildings in Sofia, it's also one of the loveliest places for a stroll and relaxation in the city garden, as the place is known. Well, that was our walk. We took care of doggy business and headed back home))) Enjoy
