Dementia is a common word that is used to generalize a decline in cognitive function that affects the ability of a person to perform his or her daily activities. This means it interferes with a person's ability making someone unable to perform his or her daily activities since it is associated with the disorder of the brain. Let's take a look at the symptoms

Symptoms

The symptoms of dementia vary depending on what causes dementia, the stage, and so on the main symptoms include the following;

Cognitive Symptoms:

  • Confusion about things such as place, time, or an event
  • Problem-solving, organizing, planning, and, so on.
  • Difficulty in communication
  • Loss of memory

Psychological and Behavioural Symptoms:

  • Restlessness or agitation
  • Limitation from social activities
  • Feeling of bad mood such as anxiety, or depression
  • Change of personality from previous self.

Physical Symptoms:
This is known as the most advanced stage of dementia These symptoms include the following:

  • Difficulty in moving or walking
  • Difficulty in eating or swallowing food drugs etc

Causes

If proper treatment is not given to an affected person on time, it can result to damaging of brain which is caused by several conditions such as the few which we have shared here.

  • Neurodegenerative diseases The most known causes of this disease are; Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, frontotemporal, and others.

  • Vascular Dementia: This is caused by less flow of blood to the brain, due to vascular conditions or strokes.

  • Mixed Dementia: This involves vascular dementia and Alzheimer's dementia.

Other causes are; traumatic brain injury, chronic abuse of alcohol, nutritional deficiencies, and several others.

Treatment

  • Taking medications is the fastest treatment for both behaviroral symptoms and cognition & memory.

  • Supportive Therapies such as speech for communication, counseling, and occupational to help maintain independence.

  • Lifestyle intervention such as doing physical activity to improve overall health.

  • Control diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Conclusion:

The best thing that one can do for oneself is to stay mentally active, do exercises often, and avoid taking too much alcohol or cigarettes to prevent dementia. In all and all it is advisable to approach a well-trained and experienced medical personnel for advice and treatment.

I have heard a whole lot of people been affected with that disease called dementia. It is not a good one in fact I heard that it always leads to death sometimes. We need to constantly take care of our body
