Muscle twitching Is also called fasciculation which is the involuntary relaxation or contraction of muscle fibers, often seen as a small movement under our skin. It can occur in any muscle of our body and can be caused by several different factors.

Overuse or fatigue: This is a muscle that has been overworked or is fatigued by a twitch as a result of recovering.

Stimulant: This is caused by excessive caffeine.

Dehydration: This is caused when our body lacks fluids. Other causes are nervous system conditions, and nutritional deficiencies.


  • What causes muscle twitching?

Muscle twitching can be caused by so many factors some of these factors are:

  • Fatigue and overuse: This is when there is intense physical activity or muscle strain which can lead to temporary twitching as muscles recover.

  • Nutritional deficiencies: When there is a low level of nutrients, most especially potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D, it can affect the function of muscle and thereby cause twitching.

  • Sleep deprivation:Also lack of sleep can cause muscle twitching as our muscles are not able to fully recover from stress.

  • Stress or anxiety: This is caused by emotional stress or physical stress.

In most people, muscle twitching is harmless and can be resolved immediately without taking medication whereas in some people they would have to take medication. However, if you observe twitching which is accompanied by other symptoms like loss of muscle control or weakness, you should see a doctor.


  • How can we prevent our muscles from twitching?

To prevent muscle twitching, you can adopt several lifestyles practice that help promote muscle health. In summary below are the following ways to prevent our muscles from twitching.

Stay hydrated: We need to drink plenty of water throughout each day to maintain proper fluid and electrolyte balance in our body.

Maintain a balanced diet: We should always ensure we get enough vitamins and minerals resources such as; potassium, calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium.

Manage stress: We should learn and always practice relaxation such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga to reduce stress and anxiety.

Get enough sleep: We should always ensure that we get adequate sleep each night to allow our muscles to rest and recover well.

Warm up and stretch: We should always warm up our body before doing exercise and stretch afterward to prevent muscle strain and fatigue that can lead to twitching.

Yes , it is true that overworking our muscle can cause this twitching. And it's really painful when it happens.
So, just like you've said, relaxation, proper hydration, good food can help avoid it.

Yeah it's true. You are really on point, muscles twitching can be caused by different factors. But if we managed stress, maintain a balance diet, get enough sleep,and staying hydrated can really helps us to prevent it.
