What is Heart Attack?

Patients usually present with a fist over the left side of the chest which is called a levine sign. this pain is usually intense substernal and usually remains for 20 to 30 minutes and maybe more and this pain could radiate to the jaw and to the neck, also to the left side or left arm.

What are the three symptoms of heart attack explain it.

The nature of the pain could be squeezing aching or burning sensation and some patients present with discomfort or pain in the epigastric area or sensation of fullness.

The other symptom could be fatigue or malaise and if we talk about the signs there could be an increased heart rate which is tachycardia, increase in blood pressure which is because of the sympathetic drive and there could be increased respiratory rate and if there is an inferior wall mi or a right ventricle infection then patient having a distended neck veins.

The mi as the name says mi is myocardial infarction.

Myo means muscle cardiac is obviously the cardiac origin and infarction is the death of the tissue or the necrosis.

There are three different entities ST elevation mi, non ST elevation mi and unstable angina and these all three entities come under ACS that is acute coronary syndrome.

How does smoking affect heart attack?

Smoking affects your heart. Smoking is one of the biggest factors which lead to a risk of heart and circulatory diseases. Breathing in second hand smoke or passive smoking can also increase your risk of breathing problems as well as heart and circulatory diseases.

Every cigarette you breathe in around 4,000 chemicals many of which are toxic and harmful to your health.

These include carbon monoxide tar and nicotine. Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that reduces the amount of oxygen being carried around your body. Chemical that forms a layer of sticky brown residue inside your lungs which can cause.

When you breathe in smoke around two-thirds of the tar stays in your lungs.

Nicotine is the addictive chemical found in cigarettes. Nicotine increases your heart rate and blood pressure. When all of these chemicals enter your bloodstream they make the walls of your arteries sticky. This increases the amount of fatty deposits that stick to your artery walls and build up over time. This makes it harder for oxygen rich blood to travel through your arteries and reach your heart and brain.

If your arteries get clogged up it can lead to a heart attack or stroke however it is never too late to give up smoking.

Tell me a story about a heart attack that happened to you or someone you know.

I had three heart attacks. First attack happened on 30 April 2016. Second on 22 February 2022 and third on June 2022.

Heart attack is not what I wish anyone. Last year my colleague at work lost his father because of heart attack and just on Monday, another person lost his mother.

I have learnt a lot from your post, Sunday evening as I was watching movies with my children, I felt this sharp pain on one side of my chest, I can't tell which side. Immediately you mentioned the left side of the chest, my heart skips remembering the sharp pains.

From this post, I'll be more careful and observant. Thank you for the invitation.

Please take care.
