Health Matters (09); Communicable Diseases
What are the common ways that infectious diseases spread between people?
In the past few years we have all felt how terrible the infectious disease called Covid 19 is. However, it did not have much impact on the people of Aceh.
The most severe infectious disease that I have ever experienced myself is scabies, scabies is an itchy disease accompanied by water bubbles on the skin so that it can cause wounds, this disease also continues to spread throughout the body if not treated immediately.
In general, the transmission of a disease is because we use the same container as someone who has been infected with the infectious disease, for example we take a shower in the same bathroom.
Drinking in the same water container to sitting next to someone who has the infectious disease, and the most fatal is wearing clothes or cloth that has been used by someone who has been infected, even though the cloth has been washed clean, there are still indications that the virus has also spread.
How can good hygiene practices help prevent the spread of infectious diseases?
Hygiene practices that can be done to avoid infectious diseases are very easy, here are some ways:
- always wash your hands with soap and running water after holding something in a public place
- always take a clean shower after doing activities outside the home
- always make sure to use water that has never been used by someone who has an infectious disease
- always change clothes and wash clothes that have been worn clean
- and most importantly, always wash your hands before eating
Why is it important for someone to seek medical help if they suspect they have an infectious disease?
The first thing that must be done by someone who has an infectious disease is medical help, the reason is so that the infectious disease does not spread throughout the body and so that it does not affect other family members.
And because infectious diseases are also very dangerous and spread very quickly everywhere, if you do not seek medical help immediately, all of humanity could be wiped out in the near future.
Can you give an example of an infectious disease and how it affects society?
The most severe infectious disease that I and the Acehnese have ever experienced is scabies, this disease makes us feel itchy all over the body and has watery, wet wounds.
This scabies disease has a very big impact on the entire community, because everyone who gets this disease cannot do their activities properly and also makes people very miserable.
How do public health measures such as vaccination and quarantine help control the spread of infectious diseases?
Vaccination and quarantine really help control infectious diseases, because by doing these two methods many people are helped so that they do not get infectious diseases.
Because the vaccine itself functions to increase immunity and endurance so that diseases do not easily enter the body.
And quarantine functions so that the disease is not transmitted to other people and can break the chain of disease.
Hopefully we all never experience this terrible infectious disease again.
