Importance Of Adequate Sleep

Introduction

Adequate sleep has a lot of impact on our mental health and our overall well-being. It is pertinent to at least take some sleep to enhance our mental health and wellness.

Come to think of sleep, I understand that there are people who suffer from sleep disorder (insomnia). They find it difficult to sleep even when they have the opportunity to do so. That's to say they can develop some health challenges due to insufficient sleep.

How much adequate amount of sleep is beneficial for good health.

Adequate sleep depends on the age of the person. When I gave birth to my first child, he slept from mid-morning till evening, so I became afraid and started asking questions. That was when I got to know that children sleep more and longer than adults.

Talking about how much adequate sleep a person needs. I understand that adults can take at least 8 hours of sleep at night.

My opinion is, though we are expected to sleep, don't use your whole productive time to sleep in the name of adequate sleep. If you do so, you are lazy, except in the case of illness.

Problems that may cause by lack of sleep

You see when a person lacks adequate sleep he/she may likely experience:

  1. Poor performance at work: such a person will not be very active in his/her job during the day because he/she may be suffering from weakness as a result of poor sleeping habits.

  2. It may also lead to excessive sleep during the day, which may sometimes be embarrassing.

  3. The individual may be at some risk of having stroke or heart disease because he/she lacks rest.

  4. The individual may have some mental or emotional instabilities.

  5. Lack of sleep may also reduce the quality of life. The more one deprives himself of sleep, the more such a person's weight is reduced. This can post a dangerous threat to the individual's health.

As much as the body needs adequate sleep and lack of sleep cause some health challenges, so is excessive sleep dangerous to an individual's health too.

The individual may risk:

  1. Having diabetes

  2. Depression

  3. Heart disease

  4. Increased risk of death.

Conclusion

Sleep is natural, remember you can't cheat on nature. Having less or excessive amount of sleep can affect you and your health. Take adequate sleep and improve your mental and physical health.
