Share Blood, Share Life
The blood is a basic necessity for the sustenance of every living organism. It is essential and critical for the transportation of nutrients, gases, wastes and hormones around the body. It has also carries out important immunological functions. In my article today, I will be writing on the contest theme "Share Blood,Share Life" organized and published by @sahmie... let's begin the task...
Blood is a body fluid, in the circulatory system if humans and other vertebrates that transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells. It also carries away the carbon dioxide from the body and other metabolic waste products.
Technically speaking, the blood is a transport liquid, pumped by the heart (or an equivalent structure) to various parts of the body, which eventually comes back to the organ (heart) to repeat the same process...
The blood is made up of four main components:;-
- Plasma: This is the liquid component of blood consisting of sugar, water, fat, salt and protein. It is responsible for the transportation of nutrients and other things around the body.
- Red blood cell: It is known for it bright red colour. Research shows that it has over 45% of its volume in the blood. Blood appears red because of this. Red blood cells also know as erythrocytes are responsible for the movement of oxygen from the lungs to other parts and carbon dioxide back to the lungs.
- White blood cell: Well known for fighting infection. It is fewer, thereby been accounted for about a percentage in your blood..
- Platelets: Apart from the red and white blood cells, platelets are actually not cells, but rather little fragments of cells. Platelets helps in the coagulation process (blood clothing) by sticking the site if an injury and the injured blood forming a platform which blood clothing can occur.
Blood can be lost in most cases of injury and chronic health condition such as cancer, stomach ulcer etc. Blood loss is dangerous and can be replenished by:-
• Drinking a reasonable amount of non alcoholic drinks in addition to the recommended amount of water by your physician.
• Getting enough sleep which will help in the circulation of the blood from the heart.
• Eating meal rich in vitamin, iron and folate
• A blood transfusion (at least 1 pint). When the condition is severe, then the transfusion of blood is the only alternative.
A basic necessity for the sustenance of man, has important functions which are:-
- The transportation and delivery of oxygen, nutrients and metabolic waste products from and to the body cells, lungs and tissues which is the primary function
- The defense and maintenance of the body tissues and organs against pathogens and infections.
- Formation of blood clot (coagulation) to prevent fluid (blood) loss.
- Body regulation (homeostasis). Regulating the state of the body.
Blood transfusion is a common medical process where donated blood or blood components are given to a patient through a vein in the arm. It is used to replace lost blood in the body due surgery, injury and some medical conditions.. Before this potentially life-saving procedure is carried out, compulsory medical reports are to be noted.
Blood transfusion is has been saving lives for long. It has no complications nor problems when carried out. Cases of death due to the procedure are extremely rare.
A blood transfusion is mainly for the replacement of lost blood in the body. It can prevent life threatening diseases, reduce damage of body organs tissues due to high haemoglobin and oxygen. It can also help correct some abnormalities in other blood Components of the body
In conclusion, the blood is as extremely complex as the human body.. It consits of a variety of components. As we now all know the importance of blood, we should all try to avoid loss of blood in any form because it is dangerous. Blood transfusion which is also a medical procedure can also be considered when there's severe loss of blood and it components.
