Contest : Tell Me About HIV

in Healthy Steem9 months ago

It was as if her world stopped for tens of seconds immediately after reading the words "HIV positive". Sandra sat nervously in the doctor's office, clutching to the piece of paper that contains her test results which seems to burn into her mind. She had never thought of life being experiencing a change dramatically from a single diagnosis..

Everything felt scary and uncertain to her as she knew that he road ahead of her would be challenging, but she was determined to stay strong and take things one day at a time. What a courage!!

Could you believe that a single diagnosis can change a person's life especially when it comes from an HIV test results.... Could there be more to this disease? Join me as I tell you about HIV

Have you had a discriminatory experience against someone who has HIV-AIDS?

To answer this big question, I'd like to give a brief meaning of HIV.

HIV known as the acronym for Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that attacks the body's immune system and can lead to a condition called AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV can be transmitted from one person to another through contact with bodily fluids, such as semen, vagina fluids, blood and breast milk. When HIV enters a body, it destroys a part of the white blood cell that often fights against disease and infection.

Now to the big question!

To be honest, I have not experienced any discriminatory experiences of anyone with HIV/AIDS myself. However, I am fully aware that people living with this virus may face discrimination in many aspects and functions of their lives. This discrimination can be in form of relationship, healthcare and employments which I know is due to misinformation and lack of understanding about HIV.

The act of discrimination encountered by people living with HIV AIDS has led to many negative effects such as suicide, low self esteem and more..... I think and also know that it is right to spread awareness to the public and from acceptance about HIV and the people living with it.....

Should these people have jobs?

The answer is yes! People living with HIV should absolutely have jobs if they are able to work. The only hindrance to them been employed should only be physical or mental disability.

HIV is not a reason to deny someone employment especially when he or she is fully qualified and in many cases people with HIV are seen as more productive than anyone else. Although these people needs to take off time to regularly check on their health and receive treatment, but this also shouldn't be a barrier to having jobs.

Can a person with HIV be cured?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for HIV at the moment, but there are treatments that can help people living with the virus live a long, healthy and fulfilling life.

These treatment is called Antiretroviral therapy (ART), that can help to have a suppressing effect on the virus and prevent it from progressing to AIDS. With ART, people with HIV can live as long as normal people without HIV.

However, it is sad to actually remember that not everyone has access to ART, and there are still many people out there living with HIV who have no access to this life-saving treatment. We hope that one day a cure will be found for this life threatening Virus..

Conclusion

To sum it all up, HIV is a very serious health condition that affects over millions of people around the globe. Despite the discrimination and stigma that people living with the virus often face, there are treatments available that can help them live a healthy and long life.

Remember, that HIV is no respecter of persons, anyone can be infected with virus. The key to the reduction of the Impact of HIV is education, prevention and access to treatment....

Hola querido
