According to the International Association for the study of pain, pain is defined as the unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage.
Pain is the body's way of alerting us to a problem due to the presence of neurons called Noticeptors. These neurons detect potential or actual damage and sends the information to the brain, the brain then processess that information thereby making us feel pain.

Back pain is a physical discomfort that occurs anywhere on the spine or back, it ranges from mild to disabling.

THERE ARE THREE MAIN TYPES OF BACK PAIN, THESE ARE:

Acute back pain
Chronic back pain
Neuropathic back pain.

ACUTE BACK PAIN: This is a type of pain that is directly related to tissue damage, it lasts less than three to six months. It may go away on its' own but can also turn into a chronic pain if it does not heal properly.

CAUSES:
It is often as a result of recent injury from involving in some activities like:
● Repeatedly lifting heavy objects improperly
● Bad sitting posture
● Muscle stiffness
● Accidents
● Falls etc.

CHRONIC BACK PAIN: This type usually last more than three to six months or beyond the point of tissue healing.

CAUSES:
● It can be due to igniting previous injury
● Sciatica symptoms; this is a pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower spine.
● Over weight
● Age related diseases like athritis.

NEUROPATHIC BACK PAIN: This type has no sign of original injury and it is unrelated to an observable injury. Certain nerves continously send pain signals to the brain eventhough there is no ongoing tissue damage.
Neuropathy is when nerve damage leads to pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in one or more parts of the body.
However, you can reduce the risk of developing neuropathy associated with diabetes by keeping your blood glucose levels well controlled.

CAUSES:
The nerve damage may be due to;
Diseases
Infection
Injury,
Medicines
