Briefly, at the end of this content I strongly believe that you will learn a lot about the natural resources called water and the methods of treating them and the qualities of the various sources. It will be so interesting and captivating so let's go......
When ever we made mention of Water what exactly comes into your mind?….
Actually, WATER is a free gift that has been even before the creation (BC) so it is owned by any individual or a organizations.
We should also know that anything called water should be odourless and colourless. Mean while anything apart from that is a contaminated water.
There are many ways by which water can be gotten and the sources of water included the following:
- Rain ☔
This is the main source of water. When rain falls on the earth, it may remain on the surface in various forms and be regarded as surface water, or it may sink into the ground at various depths and be regarded as underground water
- Surface water 🌊
This is rain water that remains on the surface of the earth, and the includes:
- Streams
- Rivers
- Ponds
- Lakes
- Dams
- Oceans
- Captured rain water
- Underground water 💦
This is a from of rain water that sinks to the ground, and we can get them through this forms:
- Springs
- Wells
- Boreholes
- Tap water/pipe-borne water
This is a another from of water that has been treated and passed through pipes to various locations for use. The use of metal pipes is no more common because they get rusty after some years. Plastic pipes are now replacing metal pipes because plastic pipes can't rust.
Water is used for so many things in our daily life, and here are some uses of water:
Domestic use: For drinking, cooking and bathing; for washing cars and floors; and for washing cars and floors; and for wetting flowers 🌺.
Industrial use:
For various purposes in industries/factories.Agricultural use:
For irrigation, fishing, and washing farm produce and farming implements.Transportation:
Sea transportation vessels, i.e. ships, ferries, canoes and boats move on water, while automobiles i.e. cars buses and lorries need water to cool their engines.Recreation:
Swimming and other aquatic sports.Hydro-eletric power:
Generation of electricity.
Generally, water can be polluted directly when it is surface water, or indirectly when pollutants sinks inti the ground to pollute underground water. Some of the pollutants are:
- Pathogenic organisms
- Sewage
- Fertilizers
- Industrial waste
- Pesticides/insecticide
- Refuse
- Decayed plants and animals
It is very important to protect sources of water. Better still, it is necessary to treat water before consumption in order to avoid water-borne diseases.
The methods of purifying water include the following:
- Boiling
- Filtration
- Addition of chemicals
- Storage and sedimentation
- Water treatment plant processing
Water is essential for human beings, plants and animals. Because of the importance of water to human life, it must be well protected in order to avoid the various water-borne diseases caused by contamination.
And for water to be regarded as good it must be colorless, odourless and also tasteless, so we should always maintain a good and healthy water supply for our own benefits.
Thanks for going through this amazing post of mine.
