Contest: Food is Medicine

Greetings to all the members of this community and platform. firstly I will like to thank God it's Monday, the begining of the week for workers. This contest looks interesting and I will participate actively.

Do you believe that the foods we eat have medicinal value?

I really believe that the food we humans eat are of medical value in our lives and health status.

My reasons for believing is because, I see the term "food" based on my own knowledge as any substance which when eaten or consumed in the human system has only positive effects on his body by providing energy, healthy internal organs, and provides the body with at least one class of food in the body and is been seen as a medicine because of it's act of reawakening the body from the state of hunger and also as a source of energy to carry out other humanly activities.

All the vegetables which we humans consume are of great importance to the body regarding the term "Medical value" vegetables like the better leaf,water leaf, tomatoes and onions are of good value to the body system based on medical value, the vegetable called onion helps to maintain the temperature of humans and server as skin care ingredient.

Give 5 examples of foods that you consider to be powerful "medicines" for the body, and what they do.

There are many examples of food which I will love to spilt into they major sectors these are :

  • Protein

  • Fruits

  • Starchy food

  • Cereals

  • Vegetables

  1. Protein: these includes fish,egg,meat,milk groundnut,beans and soya beans.

  2. Fruits: fruits such as grapes, pineapples, Mango, apple, and banana.

  3. Starchy food : the starchy food that I know and am sure of are. Yam, and also rice.

  4. Cereals : these are Maize, rice, wheat and also groundnut.

  5. Vegetables : There are the carrot, onion, spinach and lastly the tomato.

Protein functions

Based on the protein, there function as a medicine is to help to increase the growth of young ones especially the child from about age 0 to 16. Protein is also referred as a body building food, there increase good cholesterol in the body and also servers as a food that aid the development of muscles in the body in other for us humans to stay physically fit.

Fruit functions

When we eat fruits, there help to provide enough antibodies that helps to fight against diseases and also make our immune system strong enough to conquer any kind of diseases including viruses. Fruits also servers as vitamin providers they supply vitamin to the body to enable it say fit for physical exercises and helps the pigment melanin to function properly.

Starchy food

These example of food helps to repair worn out tissues in the body and helps to reduce the level or high intensity of sugar in the body and helps the body to adapt to cool environment and weather.

Cereals

Cereals usually acts as groundnut absorbing substance to weaken the high sugar intensity. Cereals also provides the body with energy.

Vegetables usually aid the heart to function properly and also adds blood to the body and makes the skin look fresh, there also servers as an agent that cures some minor illness.

How can we use food in our daily lives to keep healthy?

We can use food as an agent of maintaining a healthy status by always making sure that in a week we consume at least the complete class of food and we should avoid taking too much of some foods especially the ones that are containing protein. individual prefer to eat them because it builds the body system and helps to increase and maintain your mental status.

In our daily routine we can make use of food when we are hungry, not only that and also eat food according to the kind of act or activities we are about to perform in other to maintain a health status before performing this routine we are supposed to know the kind of activity we are about to engage in. After that we then consider the combination of food that will give us energy and make us light and fit to carry out this activity.

If we by any chance want to take a nap we then aught to eat a food like fruits, like water melon and appel and also things like coffee and tea that will ease relaxation and the sleeping process. Following this act, food has serve as means of keeping our selves healthy and fit for sleep or relaxation.

Do you think it's important for schools to teach about how food can be like medicine for our bodies? Why?

Yes I think food should be made a course to study in both the high school, college, secondary schools and also the higher institution. Because it will enable the students to be able to know the amount of food to be eating during breakfast,lunch and dinner.

And if there make it as a course to be studied,the students will find out that majority of the meal that there usually consume in a week only contains 3 class of food, which is not right, if you make food become a course it will make students to know the kind of food that falls under the six classes of food and will make make a combination of the six classes of food in there weekly meal and eat at least 2 classes of food a day and to also help them to eat food that helps the internal organs to function and the food that also protect the body from diseases which are the vitamins. One of the vitamin can be gotten from the regular sun light which is the "vitamin D" i.e the early morning sun between 7:00 to 8:3
