Giraffes are one of the most interesting animals on earth. They are also the tallest. They inhabit the dry and forested savannas of Africa south of the Sahara desert. They are considered by the local tribes to be a sacred animal. Giraffes are truly gigantic animals. Their height can reach 5.3 meters, and their weight 1930 kg. Male giraffes are usually slightly taller and larger than females. Baby giraffes, even after birth, are about 1.60 m tall and weigh 55 kg. The female giraffe gives birth upright (at birth, the cub falls to the ground from a height of one meter) gives birth to only one baby giraffe, which 20 minutes after its appearance begins to walk and suckle, but because it is much smaller than adults and becomes easy prey for predators , hides in secluded places for about a week, and then closely follows its mother.

Giraffes have big hearts. Their hearts can weigh up to 11 kg. They need such large hearts to pump blood around their long necks and also the heart pumps out excess blood when the head is low to the ground and prevents it from returning quickly back to the heart when the neck is suddenly straightened and raised on the head.

Although giraffes do not seem particularly fast at first glance, and even a little clumsy, they are actually quite agile. In case of danger, their speed reaches about 50 km/h. Giraffes can also fight if they have to to save their lives, but usually when they see danger they simply look to escape from it, for example from a predator.

Giraffes are herbivores. They use their long necks to feed straight from trees. Their favorite food is acacia leaves, but they also eat twigs from other trees, sometimes flowers, pods and fruit. Giraffes do not drink water very often because there is a lot of water in the leaves of the trees. But when they drink, they spread their front legs wide so they can bend down enough. The amount of water they drink at one time is up to 60 liters.

In recent years, the number of giraffes has declined sharply. There are about 100,000 giraffes left in the wild. This is because of the pollution of their habitats, as well as because of their hunting.

Las girafas son animales increíbles, lástima que quedan tan poca por la contaminación. Gracias por la invitación!
