Contest Attention- "My day with my four footed friend/friends (13) 🙂" | The Cat

From early childhood I was known for my obedience and sensitivity. I beat so openly with my merciful heart that my comrades even took me for a joke. I especially loved animals - and my parents indulged my whims by giving me all kinds of pets. Among them I spent most of my time and knew no greater happiness than to pet and feed them. As I grew older, this feature of my character deepened, and as I grew older it became a source of real pleasure to me. It is hardly necessary for me to take the trouble to explain the nature and power of the satisfaction thus derived to those who have experienced the joy of loving their faithful and intelligent dog. There is something in the generous and self-sacrificing love of the animal, which reaches most quickly to the heart of one who has often had occasion to test the paltry friendship and ephemeral fidelity of the creature called Man.

I got married and was lucky enough to find a woman who shared my tastes. Noticing my weakness for domestic animals, she never missed an opportunity to provide us with the cutest of them. We had birds, goldfish, a wonderful dog, rabbits, a monkey and a CAT.

This cat was a remarkable animal, large and beautiful, all black and astonishingly intelligent. Since it is a matter of mind, my wife, who was deeply superstitious at heart, often alluded to the widespread belief that all Cheri cats are witches in disguise. Not that he really meant it - and if I mention it, it's only because people have recently been reminded of that belief again.

Mike- that was the cat's name - was my favorite playmate. I was the only one feeding him and he was constantly following my heels around the house. So much so that I had a hard time preventing him from following me on the streets as well.

When I touched the cat, she immediately reared up, purred loudly, and rubbed against my hand, seeming delighted at my attention to her. This was just the creature I was looking for. I continued petting her, and as I was leaving, the animal showed a desire to follow me. I let him do it, occasionally leaning over and patting him on the back on the way home. When we arrived it felt right at home and quickly became my wife's favourite.
