INTRODICTION

Hi Steemians!

This is another day of the week to sort for natural recipes for a healthy living. For me, what I have in the offers will be some sips of a natural immune boosting plant called: LEMONGRASS.

Lemongrass is a grassy plant that is foud to be native to South east Asia and now grown in Africa, Australia, North and southern America and many other tropical zones.

English Name: Lemongrass
Scientific Name: Cymbopogon
Family Name: Poaceae
Subfamily Name: Panicoideae

In Africa, precisely the eastern part of Nigeria, the plant is typically grown for health reasons and not for decorative purposes and is popularly used in tea preparation. This plant called lemongrass has other names that it is known for. Fever grass, citronella grass, silky heads grass, barbed wire grass to mention just a few, are some of the names of this plant. It is quite interesting to know that lemon grass has a lot of health benefits to humans. Just few of the health benefits are been discovered, and many more are yet to be discovered. This plant has long leaves that might be mistaken for see grass because they both look alike. Researchers are becoming more interested in the discovering of other health benefits of the lemongrass.

REASONS YOU SHOULD CONSUME LEMONGRASS TEA

The lemongrass can be used for various health purposes which will be highlighted below:

  • To regulate cholesterol levels:

Consuming lemongrass helps in regulation cholesterol levels in the body which may result in chances of having high cholesterol levels in the body.

  • Promoting a healthy digestive system:

Lemongrass can serve as a n alternative to indigestive problems such a stomach upset and cramping of the stomach and other related stomach problems.

  • It may help in reducing high blood pressure:
    Sipping a cup of lemongrass may help in use to reduce high blood pressure which will show in e low heart rate. But lemongrass should be used in moderation.

  • Helping to reduce the chances or risk of cancer:

Lemongrass contain anticancer compounds that help in fighting cancer. This happens when the compounds boosts the immune system so as to enable the body to withstand and fight cancer or by killing the the cells that causes the cancer.

  • Lemongrass contains anti-oxidant compounds that fights against free radicals in the body that may likely diseases in the body. The antioxidants like chlorogenic acid, swertiajaponin. They help in preventing dysfunction of cells in the arteries.

  • The antimicrobial compounds present in lemongrass helps in the treatment of cavity related problems and oral infections. Infact, it is proven that silver ions and the oil found in lemongrass combined together, flights fungus and bacteria.

  • Lemongrass also possesses anti-inflammatory compounds that fights conditions like strokes and heart diseases. The genarial and citral compounds present in lemongrass are said to be the anti-inflammatory agents contained in the lemongrass.

PREPARATION OF LEMONGRASS TEA

Lemongrass tea could be best prepared in the morning, but this is subject to individual preference. If you don't have Lemongrass plants in around your home, then you can buy it from the market and prepare as follows:

  • Either get your lemongrass from the market or cut from the ones planted around your house.

  • Take few leaves or stalks and cut into some pieces.

  • Wash the lemongrass and put in a kettle.

  • Pour or put at least 2 cups of water into the kettle.

  • Boil it up to 10 to 15 minutes to properly change color and to release the needed compounds into the water.

  • Separate the lemongrass from the water and then pour the water into a cup.

You can add 2 teaspoon of honey and you have a fresh and tasty lemongrass tea ready for consumption.

CONCLUSION:

The lemongrass tea is a delicious recipe that offers a lot health benefits. Although that little research is done on the benefits of lemongrass tea, results show that lemongrass tea helps in reducing cholesterol levels, fights inflammation, promotes healthy digestive system and improves oral health.

Include lemongrass tea in your recipes to obtain a good functioning health system.
