Information on the election of WHO Regional Directors
As of my last update in September 2021, the election of WHO Regional Directors is conducted through a nomination and voting process within the World Health Organization (WHO) Member States. Each of the six WHO regions (Africa, the Americas, South-East Asia, Europe, Eastern Mediterranean, and Western Pacific) has its own Regional Office and Director.
Candidates for the position of Regional Director are nominated by Member States within the respective region. The nomination process typically involves consultation and discussions among Member States to identify suitable candidates.
After the nominations are received, the election takes place during the Regional Committee meetings. Member States from the region participate in the voting process, and the candidate who receives the majority of votes is appointed as the Regional Director for that particular region.
Please note that my information might be outdated, and there could have been changes or updates in the election process since then. For the most current and accurate information on the election of WHO Regional Directors, I recommend checking the official WHO website or other reliable sources.
